713908 2008-10-22 21:59:00 Hi
Would appreciate some input.

Alternatively i would like 2x4870 or 4870x2 but dont have $1000 and wouldnt like to spend that much money on graphics anyway.

Can get 2x4850 for about $600

Or a 4870 for around $500

Any ideas on performance difference of running 1x4870 compared with
2x4850?

Would imagine better performance by running 2 cards if successfull crossfire drivers.

Would be running on a P5Q pro.

713909 2008-10-22 22:05:00 Toms Hardware think that 2x4850's are the best that money can buy.

Whether you agree with them or not is up to you though.

713910 2008-10-22 22:23:00 Thanks, from what research I've seen I would agree.

But I always like to hear trusted peoples opinions before spending that sort of cash.

Cheers again

713911 2008-10-22 23:02:00 Actually, I'll rephrase the above.

They're the best that sensible money can buy. They reckon that on a budget, one is best, and for enthusiasts it's hard to beat two.

That won't stop people going nuts with three 280's in SLI though. Some people just want to spend cash.

713912 2008-10-22 23:15:00 Yes I think we would all love a TRI SLI setup. But sadly as a house owner I am always on a budget.

Should have kept renting. (had heaps of money)

Did Toms hardware do a benchmark test? Have searched but can't find one.

713913 2008-10-23 01:10:00 The only thing about ATI and CF is you need a profile for the game, IMO a single GPU over dual (unless you dont mind hours of tested etc) is the best solution.
One of the things I prefer about SLI...however thats another matter.
