492210 2006-10-17 20:08:00 I've seen Indian building sites. I doubt that any Kiwi (Westerner) would add anything more than enthusiasm and probably be more of a drain on local resources than the existing work force. PaulD (232)

Must say on reflection on the above,India is unlikely to have a shortage of labourers.

492214 2006-10-17 23:26:00 Hmmm . . . things like this are more about the individual doing it than the people he hopes to help . Its a holiday cloaked in altruism .

If he REALLY cared about the people who needed homes, he would donate his airfare and expenses to the families in need directly, rather than having a holiday playing in the 3rd world and feeling good about himself .

492215 2006-10-17 23:32:00 I knew a man who went to India to help out along these lines, he was a Christian, we called him Morris Minor, he was a good man and I liked him.

He was away for about 4 months, he died about 3 months later supposedly from some disease he caught there. Only about 45 years old.

492217 2006-10-18 00:35:00 Thanks Pctek for the post . I'm happy to spread the Habitat for Humanity "help yourself" ethic . We have Americans who come to NZ to help build houses here so it seemed the decent thing to go and help in a third world country .

Thanks for the good wishes .
