491648 2006-10-15 09:34:00 I've used Dreamweaver 8 and some previous version (I think it was MX, but might have been MX 2004). DW8 is much less buggy than previous versions, although this is not by any means difficult.

Personally I hate Dreamweaver with a vengeance. It provides some nice tools for web development without a working knowledge of HTML but is unacceptable (at least to me) for use over a network. It has shocking speed issues with FTP, the collaboration tools are more trouble than they're worth, and it has no integration with a decent free version control system such as CVS or Subversion (well, you can buy a third party extension).

For one person who wants to create a page and doesn't want to learn HTML Dreamweaver may be useful. You'll just have to wait a while for templates to be applied. For groups working on a project or where there are dynamic components to your website Dreamweaver really doesn't cut it, regardless of the version.

I agree with you there about FTP in Dreamweaver, I only used Dreamweaver FTP once, then I switch to a 3rd party FTP client (SmartFTP & a few others)

I have never really used the collaboration tools, so I cant agree/disagree with you there.

491650 2006-10-15 10:33:00 Dreamweaver 8 is way better than MX, improved handling if <div> tags and css.

Agree ftp sucks for sync the whole site but updating page by page is fine, use it all the time.

491651 2006-10-15 21:20:00 Just a side note, funny how Fireworks 8 comes in at 88 MB (install) when the previous version (MX 2004, pre Adobe) was only 26 MB, and for me there's almost no functional improvement. Talk about bloat... sal (67)
