Here Windows seems to load okay just can't get any further than the log on screen. Click on one of the users and it says loading settings and you get a brief glimpse of their background then it says saving settings then logs user off. So going to back up their data to be on the safe side and do as pctek suggests. The SP3 bug doesn't exhibit that kind of issue. Normally it's spyware that causes this, occasionally corrupted profile, but two corrupted profiles is unlikely. Last time I had this issue, I was able to log into the admin account, so it wasn't such a big deal. |

Just had one with both users profiles knackered. Spyware all over the place, no luck with repair installs either. Loads of Windows problems, affecting all sorts of things. |

| 714018 | 2008-10-24 23:54:00 | There are 4 users on this laptop all have administrator rights. Couldn't log on using any of them or using administrator in safe mode. Tried Ultimate boot cd and ran spybot and avira from that, played around with the registry a bit, and removed sp3 and all hotfixes etc after that install and still no luck. Repair install failed on first attempt and looked like it had failed on second attempt and when I rebooted to do a clean install it began the final stages of install  Apparently this all started with a skype install by a friend who uninstalled the brand new McAffee because he couldn't get skype to work with it. Then he installed AVG free. When I looked there was no antivirus at all so I don't know what happened there. Add to that two teenage daughters that download and share music over the net so anything is possible. Anyway it is all good now, owner is happy and she paid me immediately so I am happy. Thanks for all the help and suggestions | wlowscrk (395) | ||
