715081 2008-10-27 06:39:00 Hi Folks, Would like to put a bigger Harddrive in along side the 40G one it already has. The motherboard is a MSI MS-6577v4.0 GL6E or Gamlia 2 according to the HP website. As the computers 5yrs old now I'm guessing that IDE or SATA would be no good. Would a Seagate or Western Digital with ATA6/100 be OK ? Also is there a video card still available ? It has 2 PCI slots but thats no good for something like the Raedon 9250, 128 mb, 8xAGP card is it ? Actually tried to find this out on the web, believe it or not but couldnt find an answer which allayed my fears that it might be unupgradeable. Mainly need bigger harddrive as the daughters World of Warcraft is taking over. Any help gratefully appreciated. Clod (7853)
715082 2008-10-27 06:46:00 If its only got PCI slots, you cant use an AGP card. It wont fit

Here's info about it here (h10025.www1.hp.com)

It doesnt have SATA, but does have IDE

It looks like there's drivers for it (h10025.www1.hp.com)

Depending on what version of the BIOS is on it now, it may or may not have to be updated, so it detect a hdd bigger than 40 GB

715083 2008-10-27 07:22:00 Thanks Speedy. I'll forget the graphics card then an just go for the bigger harddrive. PCI cards at Ascent a way more than I was going to pay but a harddrive for $120 odd will be fine. Clod (7853)
715084 2008-10-27 07:28:00 If you do get a hdd bigger than 40 GB, and it crashes after (or if) you manage to install Windows on it.

I would update the BIOS first.

I had a similar prob, with a system I updated a few yrs ago.

The lady brought an 80 GB, but the version of the BIOS that was on the system, didnt recognise anything over 10 GB lol.

I managed to install Windows on it tho, but it crashed repeatedly, everytime it loaded Windows.

Until I updated the BIOS. Then everything was fine
