I would work from after work on Thursday and then again on Friday to get a car ready for the drags on Friday night and Saturday afternoon. Never had factory sponsership...free parts or even somebody else to pay for gas and tires. We ran what we brung...no silly trailers..we drove them to the track and if we broke them, we had to call for help to get them home again. If we didn't blow something, we could drive home and start making plans for a change in jets or distributor or cam and lifters for next weekend. Super Cars ruined it all for the people in the trenches..we build a lot of the innovations that the factories copied and with their engineers and sliderule jockeys, could get a little more performance and market it as a check box on the order form when some spoiled brat could order that part in his new showroom street racer. Bah...Humbug! |

You can't do over 100kmh without getting ticketed, The lines of that great song "My Maserati does 185, I lost my licence now I don't drive" It probably has appalling fuel milage Practically useless except as a shopping basket, nor comfortable for passengers or anyone else, sometimes including the driver Devaluates faster than burning money Sure they look nice but there are purely "Look at me" type cars with no redeming characteristics, you can't even use them for the intention they were made like going fast . Their sole purpose for being is negated by the speed of the car in front of you . Now if I lived in Germany, THEN I would like one, (I enjoyed walking over autobahn bridges and watching the cars hurtle by below . ) But here they are as out of place as a tricycle in a bike show . |
