494023 2006-10-26 15:32:00 Greg, you can get pretty much anything that you can normally get on the internet, but at 1000mb/s, not 2mb/s. Also, ever played CS:S? Actually, exer played any online games? LAN's are mainly about playing games, with extremely low ping.

Who cares about a full-on sound system? Go buy some full-on headphones. Zalman makes some 5.1 surround ones.So now you expect me to haul my kit all the way across the city, restrict where I smoke and what I drink, PAY for your food, Pay entrance fee, and now PAY for a pair of headphones I don't need. All to team up with a bunch of people I've never met before in some school hall? Riiiight. :yuck:

494024 2006-10-26 16:10:00 hi, im greg - ive never been to a lan, or a lan party for that matter, yet i make statements like i know anything about it.

if youve ever had a lan youd LOVE it...me and my mates have a 3 player lan now and then(though we dont have a hub so its 1v1 :( ) none the less its fun, no sleep, lots of laughs...yeah, no lag?

but umm yeah, you can bring your own food, and if you need to smoke and drink that badly youve got bigger problems than the security at a lan..

really, reconsider what you say greg, lans are great fun, try it...

oh and that remark about going and meeting people youve never met? ***? its called socialising, im sure you werent born with the knowledge of people and born with friends, you met them, when you never knew them, WAH?! crazy i know.

494025 2006-10-26 16:27:00 I've played a few private lans before. Yeah fun enough, so I do know at least something about the experience. But I play frequently online with people I know, and that's almost as interactive as playing with them in the same room, so why bother going to the hassle of carting kit around and setting it all up and dismantle it all again.

As for the super speeds you get playing on a lan, I get 20 - 50 ms pings on local and some Aussie servers on the Internet - who really needs 2 ms?

But oh, waitaminute... I'm allowed to bring my own food? Ok, you've convinced me. I'll set up my portable grill and have bbq'd lobster next to my PC. Along with a few cans of V. :yuck:

494026 2006-10-26 22:45:00 Actually we have a barbecue available for use, so BURN!!! zypher (11349)
494027 2006-10-26 23:28:00 Leech????? Surely not.
You forgot to say bring plenty of coffee too or wakeup pills or whatever.

Twinkies, Pow-r-Bars and Jolt Cola......

Because of a conflict in names with a certain christchurch lan, GotLAN? is now officially known as SyZyGy

494031 2006-10-27 09:19:00 LANs are sweet. I just wish I had a reasonable computer so I could go to more. Are you guys gonna have a DC hub running? Or is it gonna be fairly game-centric? roddy_boy (4115)
494032 2006-10-27 10:02:00 Meh, I've never really been into LAN parties. Then again, I've never been to one.
But after seeing pictures and vids off the net showing them, I think my money could be better spent elsewhere.

Just think of all the sweaty B.O that could be found in a LAN party.

Like paying off my internet bill...:xmouth: :o
