494633 2006-10-27 00:51:00 What fees ?
All I pay is the government tax on my cheque book.
Can't blame the bank for that.

494634 2006-10-27 01:10:00 And Gull were going to be the independent fuel company who kept the big guys honest and provide real competition. When did you last see a Gull station with a different price to the other petrol stations around.

They all use the "point of difference" technique to get a toehold in the market, then, once they've achieved the market share they desire, they start peddling the same s**t that all the others do.

Speaking of fuel / oil companies, just found this. (www.automotoportal.com)

Oh wait, only TSB offers no fees already for eft-pos, manual transactions, etc :D
Anyone wanna guess who I'm with then? :p

Thats nice.
From their website:
"Expect banking to cost less
You'll enjoy all the convenience of a cheque account, with none of the usual ATM, cheque and EFTPOS transaction fees. Maintain the balance above the minimum $5,000 opening deposit, and you'll pay no account management fees either. If the balance falls below $5,000 a $10 monthly management fee applies."

Most of them are nice to you if you have money. Or if you have lots of debt with them.

We have neither so generally aren't popular with them.

And no doubt they're better off "looking after" your NZ Super every fortnight than charging fees to over-65s, Jack.

So it's not necessarily altruism ...

My best horror story was the day I got $200 cash from an ATM outside the bank. Inside, I completed a deposit slip for a different account & handed it to a teller .
That cost me 2 activity fees. And one was $1.20 (as a personal transaction) for giving them cash.

That's when I changed banks - & also signed up for Internet banking.

Edit: And stu - Water doesn't have meters in most of the South Island (unless you're a farmer irrigating) & we don't have a choice about where it comes from. You pay for it in your property rates.,

494638 2006-10-27 02:21:00 I'd like an alternate tax company. One with a better phone "not answering" service. R2x1 (4628)

Ah, ok, I guess that one change between north & south island, in that case.

Hmm in that case I don’t think pctek has any more public services to change.

You may have been reading the terms for a Premier cheque account (without reading the site myself I am surmising that is what it is). The Premier cheque account give you higher interest due to your higher balance. There are normal cheque accounts as well with no minimum balance.

I have three or four separate cheque accounts with TSB Bank and their fortnightly balances fluctuate from $0.10 to $2000. I do not pay any fees - nada, zip, none. Unlimited eftpos, ATM and branch transactions. I choose to use internet banking however and I think that might cost me $1 per month.

And I see that internet banking is now free too!! Yay. I learned something.
