494490 2006-10-26 19:01:00 Yes some neighbours have got "faster". Pity it didn't work.
I was expecting mine to be slower for that reason but no, seems to be around the same.

(It varies slightly - it averages 600)

494491 2006-10-26 21:12:00 You only getting 101.2 KB/sec :(, Hope you our speed get better :D stu161204 (123)
494492 2006-10-27 01:23:00 It's 2pm, and I'm doing 5050kbps download (just under 5Mbps) and upload is 422kbps. That means my line has definitely been unleashed, though for upload only, I have always had max available download because I stuck with a very old "full speed" Jetstream connection plan. Upload was never better than 240-250kbps though.

Next thing is, what would be the optimum time of day (or night) to do an outright maximum speed test? I'm thinking around 6:00am in the morning should be best when the overnight BW floggers have fallen asleep at their keyboards.

Cheers

494493 2006-10-27 03:44:00 I just did a check here at work after rebooting the router. 2Meg down and 546Kb up. The 3.5Meg we are on seems to been unleashed downwards.. paulw (1826)
494494 2006-10-27 04:10:00 I dunno, 546 up is pretty darned good, so your 2 meg down is more likely to be a system configuration (possibly RWIN or MAX MTU), exchange distance, line quality or traffic problem . As I understand it, when they took off the speed restraints it was a global change so I don't think they will be differentiating between subscribers .

I could be wrong but it would be hugely labour intensive if they were to switch everybody individually . As I understand it, that is also the reason why they pre-allocated everybody's new plan, so that they only had to deal with the exceptions .

I didn't like their choice so I advised them of my selection in advance . That way I don't end up with a big bill at the end of the month for a data allowance I don't need . As it is I'm saving over $30 a month compared to my old plan with higher upload speed and double the cap . From my perspective . that's unleashed big time .

Cheers

494495 2006-10-27 05:33:00 2Meg down and 546Kb up. The 3.5Meg we are on seems to been unleashed downwards..Same thing happened with my downstream speed, though it was about a week before the "unleashing" was supposed to happen. maccrazy (6741)
494496 2006-10-27 07:20:00 I have changed from the GO plan to GO LARGE. I see from the usage meter that I now have unlimited downloading but my speed has decreased as the day progressed. On the old plan I had an average download speed of arround 1896-1950 kbps. Today at 9.35am it was 2083kbps ( Whoopee) 12.17pm down to 1269kbps and then at 4.59pm ( because XTRA really wanted to make my day) it was 255kbps. That is not a miss print......255kbps.
I love Xtra, they charge you more and give you less, lets hear it for the big boys!!.

494497 2006-10-27 09:03:00 I rung xtra tonight and asked them to change me over to the go large plan, this call was made at 6.45pm the women told me to wait for four hours and i will be unleashed. I wait with dying angst NOT.
One hour to go.

494498 2006-10-27 21:22:00 Just got an email from Orcon this morning saying that it had been changed over yesterday. Reboted my router and guess what. Same old speed. 2500Kbs down on a FS plane. Same as it was with the 3.5Mb plan. Guess that's the max that my piece of copper will take. I can live with this speeed but it was the old 10Gig cap that was killing me. The new 15Gig cap i can live with unless you get one of the new Sky IPTV boxes.

494499 2006-10-27 23:25:00 Got this from Woosh this week;

But then I also get this;
"Your measured download rate was 409 Kilobits per second":groan:

That's quite honourable though, they inform you of what you should expect your download speed to be.....
