493335 2007-08-27 04:07:00 You know..I never have listened to Ozzie..I think I'll save his stuff for my golden years.

My first wife (deceased now) and I used to think that in our old age, we'd be listening to our favorite group..the Beatles..and that old romantic number "WHY DON'T WE DO IT IN THE ROAD" would be our song.

493337 2007-08-27 04:36:00 I was going to high school during the hippy era . . Haight-Asbury and Timothy Leary . . . . LSD-25, Window Pane, micro-dots, Mellow Yellow, sin semilla, OZ's, doobs, bombers, roaches, Sherms, the munchies, peyote buttons, mescalline, black lights, and all .

I even had a surf-sound rock band in Newport Beach and played all night/surfed all day . Those were the days I could run for 3 days straight and no sleep . I think I am paying for that nowadays .

Believe it or not . . . I never took any recreational pharmaceuticals . I was a cheap drunk . . . 1/2 bottle of beer or a Ripple or Annie Greensprings and I'd be zonked . I got plastered three whole times and decided the after-effects were too nasty and never got wasted again .

I drink an occasional beer or a single malted Scotch, neat, water side . . but that's about it any more .

Knew of, but didn't get into the acid rock until much later . . . like about 10 years ago or so . At the time it was too "strange" and discordant . . . . and I didn't feel a hook in it .

Then came Jimi and ZZ and SRV and Bugs Henderson . . . . . .

But I was around it all . . saw it, lived in it, never partook of drugs .

493338 2007-08-28 01:44:00 When i first heard SRV I was a young teen trying to play guitar. Heard SRV and thought yes, this guy is kick ass! Tried to play his stuff and almost ended up putting the guitar down for life because of it  Man his stuff was harder then it sounds to play! rob_on_guitar (4196)

What bugs me is his cording technique . . he deadens the string he doesn't want to sound and just holds the ones he wants . . . He actually strokes all the strings . . gads . . but it worked for him .

I tried it and if I actually play a full chord to fill in where he is muting, the sounds go all weird . So . . his harmonics depend on the muted strings to either pick up and transmit to the amp or they just act as rhythm enhancers and don't add to the all around musical sound .

Strange . . but he was a god on the guitar . I just leave his music for aural appreciation .

Did you ever get any Bugs Henderson?

493340 2007-08-28 07:24:00 Stevie Ray is ok but personally I'm a fan of Joe Satriani. So are my children - not that they have much choice..... Winston001 (3612)
493341 2007-08-28 13:02:00 Satriani I like to play as it is a very melodic yet disciplined in his technique.
I heard a lil Bugs Joe, specially after that mp3 you sent me I went and clicked on quite a few related links, there was another guy...er, devin or devon, I cant remember at this time, but he caught my attention, very southern but total bad ass on the guitar.

493343 2007-08-29 06:20:00 Bo Diddley is in serious medical condition right now..he suffered a heart attack during a medical examination and is not expected to live. SurferJoe46 (51)

Yup, Im noy sure whether you intially sent me Bugs mp3 or if it was someone else, but pretty sure it was him. I went to his web site which lead to heaps of other guitarists. The only thinkg I find though alot of similar bands havent got that.....grit I guess you call it in the vocals. Some singers are just way too clean. I like voices that sound like they drink alot of bourbon and smoke 5 packs of ciggies a day while collapsing on stage from a heart attack. Joe Cocker took it too the extreme, but i never liked him lol
