1432394 2017-03-02 06:07:00 hi.

Not all of my ram is visible at post, nor in task manager; dxdiag sees all of the ram.

Two machines have exhibited this phenomenon, a 945gcm-s2l with windows 7 32bit, 2x2GB. post and taskmanager show 3GB yet dxdiag is displaying 4GB. blue is an ep31-ds3l with windows 10 64bit, normally 2x2GB until i added 2x1GB earlier today. post and taskmanager show 4GB and dxdiag shows 6GB. interestingly the pagefile was larger;~6GB(its on auto).

ep31-ds3l needs to be 4x2GB ddr2 800; blue is getting an ep43t-s3l with 1x4GB ddr3 1600

1432397 2017-03-02 07:39:00 windows 7 32bit X86 (32bit) will only see 3 GB RAM regardless if you have more.

Also the motherboard is only capable of taking 4GB www.gigabyte.com

2 x 1.8V DDR2 DIMM sockets supporting up to 4 GB of system memory

The other -- the mother board EP31-DS3L again cant see any more than 4GB according to the Specifications.

Memory: Four DDR2-DIMM sockets (maximum of* 4 GB up to DDR2-1066). Read the Motherboard Specs www.gigabyte.com

All the extra memory is doing nothing but taking a ride, and wont be used.

:(

curious that the ram can still be seen by some software.

1432399 2017-03-02 09:15:00 Not so curious, it can still be detected as installed but not used. Later versions of windows can report the full installed amount regardless of windows can actually use. I guess MS and others got sick of answering questions about where the rest of the RAM was. dugimodo (138)
1432400 2017-03-02 16:23:00 if you have been upping your ram no doubt you have been chasing some extra performance

On your E4500 system a upgrade to a E8400 CPU would give you a little bit more for around $20/25

cpuboss.com

But the biggest jump in performance retaining your current config would be upgrading to a SSD

32bit won't show 4GB.

The other? Incompatible RAM perhaps.

1432402 2017-03-02 20:17:00 add to that

onboard vid can take some of the RAM
the 1000 , 1024 ~issue~ : 2 different ways to measure(not the right term) RAM size (and HD size)
some mb's can use more of the 4G than other mb's. Some HP's were quite bad in that respect . Might be the 1000 / 1024 thing ?

and a total guess :-) , perhaps some programs are showing what the bios detects as RAM size rather than whats available to Win ?

You will never need more than 640K anyway .

1432403 2017-03-02 20:40:00 wainuitech (pressf1.pcworld.co.nz) has the truth of it, ep31 only supports 4GB. whoever built this computer chose 2x2GB over 4x1GB, thankfully they picked ddr2 800.

looking to upgrade blue to a e5450 (www.aliexpress.com _10000560_10000073_10000561_10000357_10000074_1000 0608_10000175_10000507_10000401_10000505_10000558_ 10000068_10000552_10000063_10000365_10000367_10099 _10000156_10096_10000569_10000097_10000094_1000033 7_9987_10000090_10000147_10000091_10000144_1000033 9_10000150_10084_10083_10080_10000153_10082_10081_ 10110_10111_10112_10113_10000535_10114_10000534_10 000089_10000086_10000083_10000349_10000135_1000008 0_10078_10079_10073_10000140_10070_10122_10123_101 26_10124_10000546_10065_10068_10501_10000132_10000 033_10503_10000030_10000026_10000126_10000023_1000 0129_10000123_432_10060_10062_10056_10055_10054_10 000632_302_10059_10000120_10000020_10000013_100001 17_10103_10102_10000016_10000114_10000111_10052_10 053_10050_10107_10051_10106_20517_10000621_1000038 4_20515_10000629_10000101_10000100_10000576_100005 79_10000104_10000045_10000578_10000375_10000108_10 000377_10000612_10000390_10000613_10000042_1000059 2_10000594_10000039_10000587_10000036_10000389_100 00187-9987_10111_10050_10503_10501_20517_20515,searchweb 201603_2,afswitch_1,ppcSwitch_1,single_sort_0_defa ult&btsid=5dc53e67-c02f-4b34-a381-dbc3a75e5ca9&algo_expid=29a538a8-1a8a-4e08-881f-5c4a4eec1485-0&algo_pvid=29a538a8-1a8a-4e08-881f-5c4a4eec1485) for the 4ghz overclocks on ep43t-ds3, going to move the ep31-ds3l into the computer the 945gcm-s2l currently occupies.

240GB SSD is definitely the best upgrade either of these computers could take. blue has a 64GB ssd + 3x640GB-JBOD + hd6770 1GB, while the other computer makes do with an internal 80GB hdd supplemented by a 1TB external USB3 and a HD4850 512MB.

all of them would benefit from usb3 and this cardreader (www.aliexpress.com) seems like the best way to implement it

blue is watercooled. Currently the only cooling the other computer has is provided by a duct on the cpu cooler and the psu above. This will soon be supplemented by a 92mm rear fan and this bracket (www.aliexpress.com _10000560_10000073_10000561_10000357_10000074_1000 0608_10000175_10000507_10000401_10000505_10000558_ 10000068_10000552_10000063_10000365_10000367_10099 _10000156_10096_10000569_10000097_10000094_1000033 7_10000090_10000147_10000091_10000144_10000339_100 00150_10084_10083_10080_10000153_10082_10081_10110 _10111_10112_10113_10000535_10114_10000534_1000008 9_10000086_10000083_10000349_10000135_10000080_100 78_10079_10073_10000140_10070_10122_10123_10126_10 124_10000546_10065_10068_10501_10000132_10000033_1 0503_10000030_10000026_10000126_10000023_10000129_ 10000123_432_10060_10062_10056_10055_10054_1000063 2_302_10059_10000120_10000020_10000013_10000117_10 103_10102_10000016_10000114_10000111_10052_10053_1 0050_10107_10051_10106_20517_10000621_10000384_205 15_10000629_10000101_10000100_10000576_10000579_10 000104_10000045_10000578_10000375_10000108_1000037 7_10000612_10000390_10000613_10000042_10000592_100 00594_10000039_10000587_10000036_10000389_10000187-10503_10501_20517_20515,searchweb201603_2,afswitch _1,ppcSwitch_1,single_sort_0_default&btsid=f5df9fe9-0fbe-4eea-865c-916f5c2d4657&algo_expid=47206dfc-15a3-4469-8d51-1fd878d10404-4&algo_pvid=47206dfc-15a3-4469-8d51-1fd878d10404), taking advantage of a rectangular vent in the side panel, under the opening of the duct. LED fans will soon provide "the other computer" with a witty, colour based name.
