1432279 2017-02-27 04:55:00 My new NUC computer is occasionally shutting down - today, for the first time, it did it while I was sitting in front of it, and there was an error message something about microsoft.com/stopcode. However, I cannot find any information on this.

Neither Windows Live Mail nor Thunderbird will operate satisfactorily - they both shut down.... so now I am left using webmail.....

Any clues please?

TIA

1432280 2017-02-27 05:27:00 Shutdowns like that can be caused by faulty drivers, Malware, Faulty Hardware, bad install (software corruption) also depends on how much work PBTech did in actually putting in the OS.

One quick look see-- On the search type in Reli Open view Reliability History - look at the time it crashed, there will be errors, they may tell you exactly what crashed.

Failing that looking at the .dmp file will say exactly ( usually) the problem. BUT you need the proper software to read the files, they would need to be uploaded somewhere with a link to download. Some of us have the software and knowledge on how to read them. :nerd:

They should be located at C:\Windows\Minidump

Knowing the actual stop code would be a huge help.

If its software corruption you may need a USB drive with W10 on it to run some commands.

1432281 2017-02-27 08:47:00 You need to stop w10 restarting after a crash so you can read the stop code.

Ctrl Panel/System/Advanced system settings. This will bring up System Properties. Click the 'Advanced' tab then go to 'Startup and Recovery and click the Settings box. Under 'System failure' untick the 'Automatically restart' box.

Now the stop code will be left on the screen.
