| 1432047 | 2017-02-20 21:16:00 | Restarting Win10 just now and the not unusual window " Getting Windows ready Don't turn off your computer' pops up with the dotted circle turning for almost half an hour now, still turning without any signs of stopping! WTF. Any major updates lately? I always just 'shut down' rather than 'restart' this machine lately. It's really not easy to 'like' to machine like this for your work. Luckily, I have another Win8.1 PC as a backup system. |

| 1432048 | 2017-02-20 21:40:00 | It has finally restarted after 43 mins, to be more precise! | bk T (215) | ||
| 1432049 | 2017-02-20 21:47:00 | If you have the Fast Startup option enabled, which it is by default, then doing a Shut down isn't actually doing a Shut down at all, a restart is better. | CYaBro (73) | ||

Updates - Looking at this PC which is right up-to date, the last "big" Cumulative Update was on the 11th Jan, one smaller @ 11.4MB on the 26th Jan. A LOT depends on the computer as to how long these take, the state of the OS, what's running in the background, Whats being updated, Eg, is it Windows or Office ? "IF" updates are wanting to reboot during working hours you need to check your active Hours settings, to make sure they are correct. NEVER had this PC prompting for a reboot during the active hours, unless Manually updated. Even then Nod32 actually warns that updates are available, so can check if I wish to. |

| 1432051 | 2017-02-20 22:06:00 | " Getting Windows ready Don't turn off your computer' . Its not a fast start issue :-) Windows updates screwing users around..still . People expect Win to start in the morning , when work starts, without having to wait for unexpected updates to install : your 45minutes later Since MS took away any real user control of Updates, just turn of the update service Every now & then, when convenient for you, turn on the service, do a manual check for updates & install then , turn off service again. The other nasty surprise for some, was a major 10 update COMPLETELY removing Office2007 , leaving the PST hidden(moved away) , no working email or Word MS recently decided not to have 2007 on Win10 any longer, despite the fact that it worked 100% , so MS is just removing it (and earlier versions). So, I would take some control of updates & your PC . :-) |

Brought it up this morning and the last app she tried to bring up last night, was sitting there on the screen . Would hate it to be a works PC . lurking . |

The defaults are 8am-5pm outside of that time is been given permission to reboot.. To quote myself: "IF" updates are wanting to reboot during working hours you need to check your active Hours settings, to make sure they are correct. NEVER had this PC prompting for a reboot during the active hours, unless Manually Edited: Heres the default settings: Its basically doing what its told /Allowed to do. 7877 |

| 1432054 | 2017-02-20 23:32:00 | wai thanks for that, still being dictated to tho, 10am to 10pm I have changed to, but see how one is forced to abide by MS rules. Wonder if the "Commander in Chief" of the US is caught out with this !!. BH will just have to go to bed and read a book instead of playing games, yeah right. lurking. |

| 1432056 | 2017-02-21 11:00:00 | Windows 10 is a dead loss as a work machine, spends more time doing its own thing than what you want it to do. I only have one PC on W10 now, all the others have gone back to W7. If you have W10 Pro go to group policy edit, (search policy) and disable "auto updates". If you have W10 Home you are doomed, no Group policy. Get rid and install W7 or W8.1 | mzee (3324) | ||
