1432040 2017-02-20 21:11:00 I seem to be having problems with internal hard drives disapearing from my desktop, I'm running win 10 pro I had 2 = 1TB hdd and they have both disapeared in explorer.
When I remove them and plug them in as an external drive I can see them, but I reconnect them internal again to my windows it comes up with black screen no OS press ctrl alt del.
Then when I plug my win 10 back internal there are folders etc missing and not showing explorer folder in task bar after accessing in another pc as an external drive as admin.
So had to reformat a drive to instal a fresh copy win 10!
Is it something in the bios as it never used to do this I had 2 internal hdd that I could access for storage etc or are the drives no good, if so how do I check existing drives as I have one 1.5TB and several 1TB.

1432041 2017-02-20 22:05:00 Could be one of several things. Could be:

* Dirty Connections
* Failing SATA Cables
* Failing Motherboard
* Faulty SATA Headers on board
* Power Supply problem
* Failing Hard Drives

The list can be quite long, and sometimes its a case of try changing one thing at a time to eliminate or locate the problem.

These drives are not set (or were set) as RAID were they ?

Has the BIOS settings been altered in anyway - try resetting back to defaults.

1432042 2017-02-21 19:38:00 As wainuitech has said, it could be a number of things.

Get some diagnostic tools from the HDD manufacturer (eg SeaTools, WD Lifeguard) and run at least a quick scan to see if there are any obvious issues. If it finds something, copy everything you need off the drive & get a new one ASAP.

1432043 2017-02-21 21:37:00 To get worthwhile answers, you need a UNAMBIGUOUS description. :)

": I'm running win 10 pro I had 2 = 1TB hdd " , "as I have one 1.5TB and several 1TB" ??????
so is it 1 drive, 1 drive 2 partitons, 2 drives together at the same time or separately ????

"but I reconnect them internal again to my windows it comes up with black screen no OS press ctrl alt del." " both disapeared in explorer."
What ???
so win is running but 1 or 2 or all , what what what dissapears , yet win is running so what drive is Win on ? if explorer is working what drive is win on ?

"So had to reformat a drive to instal a fresh copy win 10!"
reformat what drive, you said there was one, 2, several . Wasnt win still working (see above)

What drive is in the PC when you pluged in via usb ?
are these extra drives to the main hard drive ?
how many drives are IN THIS PC .
was there a copy of Win on one of the other drives ? what shows is Disk manager ?
is raid on by default in the bios ?

1432044 2017-02-22 05:03:00 I have got the drives back now I don't know if it was the new format win 10 on another hdd did check the drives WD & seagate drive tools and it picked up a 1.5 seagate which was clicking which I use an external drive any way! micky (7329)
1432045 2017-02-22 08:41:00 1.5 seagate which was clicking which I use an external drive any way!

Drives only click for one of two reasons.

1. Not getting enough power
2. About to FAIL !!

You are playing dangerous if its the second.

1432046 2017-02-22 21:27:00 clicking is usually bad, very bad . (or as above, could just be too long a USB cable causing a voltage drop on USB powered HD's )
that could explain a few things

Sometimes , a faulty HD can screw with the system , even if its not the main drive
Win's explorer can have all sorts of issues as it tries & tries & tries to access a failing HD

backup the data on that clicking HD while you can
