| 1431784 | 2017-02-12 08:20:00 | So i purchased a sort've moderate gaming pc with an i5 processor and a gigabyte 1060 gpu. After building everything i found the m-atx motherboard unfortunately has two fan ports on the motherboard, and one of those is for the cpu fan. This leaves the two fans on the case redundant. Would it be safe to run this pc without overheating? | big glock (17520) | ||

The Extraction fan will also suck in air along with the CPU Fan. What is the motherboard ? (Make and model) Most have several Fan headers. |

| 1431789 | 2017-02-12 17:30:00 | So your case has 3 fans for cooling? You can have a splitter cable for 2 or maybe 3 running off the Chassis Fan connector,most cases have generic loud inefficient fans,there is plenty of options to fit fans that move plenty of air while drawing low amps |

| 1431791 | 2017-02-12 18:26:00 | Yes it's perfectly safe and yes if you only connect 1 fan make it the rear extractor fan. As mentioned if you want to connect the other fans a simple adapter from the PSU or a fan controller will do the trick. In my testing front and side fans make very little overall difference to the case temperatures and just spot cool the area directly in front of the fan slightly. When you suck hot air out the back it has to come in somewhere, having inlet fans doesn't normally increase airflow much at all, it just controls where the air enters a bit more precisely. |

| 1431793 | 2017-02-16 18:13:00 | Yeah, you must, must, must have a CPU fan, and if it's a decent gaming rig, then you must have a GPU fan. As others have said, there's some weak extraction happening with fans in the power supply, and it's important that there is air being drawn into and out of the body of the computer (otherwise the whole case and everything in it will runn very hot). Personally, I would suppliment it by having a case fan pushing air in somewhere, or alternatively pulling more air out (but kind of competing against the PSU fans). My own computer - I leave one side off the case instead to beat the summer heat, but not recommended if there's kids, or pets in the house, or if the computer is ever left running unattended (because components can catch fire and spark). |
