First broadcast about 6 months ago on BBC2, but only now to be seen here. The TV series starting this weekend - One, Sunday 7:00 pm New Zealand: Earths Mystical Islands

I'm usually not one for documentaries, but this one is superb. Some stunning photography capturing our native wildlife. Forget the kiwi in some artificial surrounds - you get to see them foraging in daylight on a remote beach. See penguins trekking through the bush to some inland remote gathering place. Kea in the wild, and not just wreaking havoc on rental cars, although there is footage of that, too.

Narrated by our own Sam Niell.

Three parts:

Episode 1 - Cast Adrift
Episode 2 - Wild Extremes
Episode 3 - New Arrivals

Here's some still shots to give you some idea of the stunning photography

Hope you enjoy it as much as I did

Watch Planet Earth II if you get a chance, some great footage in that series as well.

LOL, includes the bit where one molested the cameramans hat? Male kakapo apparently are either confused or rather enthusiastic.

Cute though.

Walone presents this morning with egg plastered over an already red face :(

Not a pretty sight at the best of times, but today?

Seems some of the key words from the Freeview site when Googled led me to the wrong sites (yeah right, heard that before). So what I thought was a program featuring Earth's Mystical Islands was not.

In reality Sunday's TV program is another in the Cast Adrift series. Somewhat in the same vein (which is what tripped Google up) but not what I was raving about. Apart from falling into the trap of implicitly trusting Google, I should have realised,

1 the Cooking Channel (TV One) is hardly likely to broadcast a program of the caliber of Earth's Mystical lslands, and
2 the BBC is not likely to get over its dog-in-the-manger attitude and release such a program so soon.

Sorry guys to lead you all astray. But should you have the chance to view it, I would not hesitate to recommend you do so.

Mea culpa.

1430814 2017-01-20 20:51:00 That's OK Wall . As long as you forgive my spellf***er from changing your name to Walk, who is, as we all know in the name of a fly that has had its wings removed!

Bugger. I saw that and thought it had been abbreviated from "Ghost Who Walks". I could live with that.

But an unfortunate earthbound fly? :)
