1430737 2017-01-16 21:36:00 With the new Win10 update coming out soon (creators update) MS are addressing user concerns regards Privacy
There is a new 'privacy dashboard' to make it easier for users to manage their privacy settings in Win10

Its BS. Smoke & mirrors
"Diagnostics" (data collection) still cant be turned off, only set to basic/full
All they have done is bring this issue back into the news .

Is this all to try & stave off any govt regulations /sanctions ?
France is took a stand on this (but then did nothing??) "excessive data collection"

1430738 2017-01-16 23:01:00 From a higher-level perspective, Microsoft is frittering away an important competitive advantage by maintaining this secrecy. Clearly, Google snoops far more than Microsoft

They all do it. But dont see to many complaining about Google.

Most of the settings can already be disabled, but most people simply go next, next next accepting the defaults.

The new settings can be altered quite a bit and are already in the latest build 15007. What many DONT KNOW is all the apps, they can be turned off from sending data, most dont have a clue as to how or where the settings are. If an App is turned off and info is required a message will pop up asking permision to turn it back on -- Old news been like that for quite a while now.

Personally Never get any of the so called "Advertising" Geeeeeeeee Wonder why that is --- its turned off ;)

I complain about google, yep far worse . They drove around in their cars scooping up as much data as possible . Ive allways said if you or I tried that we would be looking at jail time .
Plenty of people have been complaining about google in past years, I suspect they have now just given up on it .

The issue is theres often a level of deceit involved in all this
When caught out, its allways ~opps, we never intended to do that~ ; despite paying someone to write the code & spending time & $ to do these things they never intended to do .

Android apps; the worst of the lot
One email app actually sends all your incoming email through there servers , theres no good reason to do that . Except to scoop up as much as possible .

Doesnt make it OK for MS . Have to draw the line somewhere .
And still cant turn off 'telemetry' . The one thing that so many wanted disabled .

1430740 2017-01-17 00:27:00 The whole thing is where do we all stop complaining about it when everyone does the same thing ?

Places track you where ever you go, no matter what you do (if out in public) In some cases, and I had this happen, I was actually glad I was being tracked, as it proved I was innocent of what I was accused of. Used their own tracking to prove it. :)

BTW-- Ya know BM's gonna have a field day unloading all the hate in this thread eh :D-Waiting waiting ;)

1430741 2017-01-17 00:39:00 All this is nothing new.

Same issue on Win95 , yep back in Win95 .Ralf Nader was even involved it trying to stop Win spying back then .
Win95 registration trawled the PC & sent info back to MS, but back then it was voluntary .

Well, I was always taught “Never let a chance go by oh Lord................." and I'd hate to disappoint you” :D

But the bit that alarms me on this Site is the number who believe that two or three wrongs make a right.

(Oh, three known crooks have been stealing again, so it must me all right to steal).

In defence of Google, who some like to use as an excuse for Microsoft’s behaviour, to my knowledge, they have never actually entered my computer and stolen stuff, inserted Key-loggers, or “Tattooed my Bios”. Sure they have gathered information that I have passed through their servers, and they have driven all over the world photographing everything in site, but at least their photography was in the main done from a public place and produced Google Maps and Google Earth.

As for Microsoft, they have produced sweat FA other than Targeted Advertising, strictly for their own benefit.

But of special note to you Wainui, SWMBO, a faithful follower of Microsoft and Win 10, got an update a couple of days ago and since that her Facebook Page has stuff missing. If she clocks on with my daughter, or daughter-in-law’s computers the page is fine.

I laughed, shouldn’t have done that. :D

I don't get too concerned about the data collection - if MS or anyone else wants to know what I've been doing, then good luck to them.

Where I think they can be faulted is in not making it obvious/easy enough to turn all this stuff on and off, and having too much defaulting to on. At the system level it is not too bad - much better than it was, but setting the levels for all the apps is a PITA.

I laughed, shouldn’t have done that. :D SWMBO had the exact same thing happen to her Facebook account. Here's the Hmmmm ??? She doesn't use her computer very much these days, she mainly uses her Phone or Tablet, Both Android.

Last time she used FB on her computer would have been easily 6 months ago. Its VERY common for FB to lose content then it can return at any time. One time last year, just before Xmas, just about every post, as well as all the games she plays completely went AWOL, came back a day later.

Cant blame Windows for that. :)

My own FB account, nothing missing, not that Its used much, only for a page I have created for gaming, a few games, and one page of the local chit-chat that's usually a bit of a laugh (read as local gossip or local events ). ;) If MS want to gather info that I lost 5 Million virtual $$ online gaming good on them.

If you don’t worry about “Data Collection” that’s fine, your choice.

But there should be a strait forward option to Opt in, or Opt out, and the default should be OUT.

After that it is up to the individual.

Problem solved, but the “Slime Ball” tactics of Microsoft to set it up so the “Man in the Street” hasn’t got a “Snowballs chance in Hell” of opting out, completely destroys their credibility.
