| 1432067 | 2017-02-22 03:28:00 | Oh I see, so which Microsoft update removed the compulsory update feature on Windows 10 Home? Don’t tell me you’re talking about a “Hack” that some Bright Spark has created to beat the Microsoft system. If so I’ll bet that Microsoft are feverishly working on a Hack to un-hack the Hack. And what about their “Spyware and Data Collection” feature, is there a “Hack” for that too? Its not a "hack" its part of the system that can be manually turned off in the services as 1101 pointed out, its not hidden. Doing a .bat file means all you do is double click it instead of opening services and manually altering, but of course MS don't tell you about it, If they tried to stop people doing it, they would have to somehow re-write or stop access to the services options. As for the collection, you can disable all the apps that send info back, ( and gain instant speed as less resources are being used) again, no "hacking" simply going in and turning them off. Anything else, while it may not so easy to disable it can be done in various ways. I use Eset Smart Security which has the firewall - set to Active Filtering, so anything that wants in or out I either allow or not, INCLUDING the telemetry. They don't want people going in and fiddling with settings that will have an effect - Blimey I (and any one with the knowledge) could disable the OS within seconds by changing something they are not meant to, that's why important system files are hidden. ( any OS) Look at it in the same light as your Linux OS, there are some things you can easily turn off or on, others require a terminal with Root/admin rights and several warning along the way. If a person knows the commands they can do almost anything. Both OS's are settings that are not meant to be altered willy dilly as they can cause problems. In fact you did one the other day - easily removing the screen saver --- Who knew that would have caused a problem-- BUT how many people would usually remove that ? not many. |

Obviously you would'nt go stripping down the engine and gearbox as you are not meant to. With a OS, ( Any OS) there are things you can do that wont do any real harm, average user stuff. Then there's more skills required for other tasks. Please refer to the post above about your Linux experience -- That really shouldn't have happened like it did, as it was to easy to break an important function. ( really weird it did) BUT you fixed it, so guess ya wont try it again, or if you do now you have the experience / knowledge to sort it. :) |

| 1432069 | 2017-02-22 04:02:00 | Cant see any Car Company being stupid enough to adopt Microsoft logic. :D ah, you mean like car computers that can be remotely hacked into & do stuff like disable brakes while its on the road, being driven Or car computors & systems , where the previous 2 owners can still get full remote access , because the car makers didnt think of that :badpc: :) perhaps they need some MS logic |

Well lets address your questions . No, I just drive it . There is no indications from the gauges and lights there is a problem so why would I? There is no oil on the garage floor, no whining, no knocking, so nothing wrong . It isnt broken so it doesnt need fixing . Reliability has come a long way in the motor industry, but even my old 1938 Ford V8 Coupe didnt cause me as much grief as Windows 10 . However, not every cloud has a silver lining, and somehow I got appointed as the go-to guy when my geriatric mates computers crashed . Now this was fine, because they would turn up with their computer and a box of stubbies which we would devour whilst wrestling with the problem . Unfortunately, in a fit of rage, I converted their computers to Linux and I havent seen the buggers since . Have to buy my own beer, stuff Linux . But seriously, if Microsoft think this roll-out of Windows 10 is acceptable, then it might indicate to the rest of the world how deranged American thinking has become . |

| 1432072 | 2017-02-22 06:03:00 | I don't understand how you can have so many problems with Win10. I run it at home on 2 desktops and my work runs it on around 120 desktops. None have any issues at all, none send info to MS unknowingly. None have been broken by updates so far. I wonder if there is a common denominator to all these problems you have. Oh and I also run Mint at home without crashing it. But man you MS bashing makes you sound like an Australian whose sports team got thrashed. |

There is no oil on the garage floor, no whining, no knocking, so nothing wrong . It isnt broken so it doesnt need fixing . Oh dear, one day you may find it will just stop . Sometimes by the time warning lights come on its usually to late . All cars wear out, coolant goes down, oil is used, tyres can lose air pressure . True the majority of the time things are fine, as they get older they use more liquids (oil, water etc) The Mrs car, hers is starting to get a bit older, and while the examples given are exactly the same, if you put the recommended oil in the engine you need to top it up every so often . So the last time it went in for a full service the garage put in a slightly heavier grade of oil - problem solved . |

You let me do the worrying about that. ;) I have no idea how many cars Ive owned in my lifetime, but the lot put together havent caused me as much grief as Windows 10. :D |
