1432057 2017-02-21 18:57:00 Windows 10 is a dead loss as a work machine, spends more time doing its own thing than what you want it to do. I only have one PC on W10 now, all the others have gone back to W7. If you have W10 Pro go to group policy edit, (search policy) and disable "auto updates". If you have W10 Home you are doomed, no Group policy. Get rid and install W7 or W8.1 Why not just turn off the options, its easy enough and been covered many times. Even the updates in Home.

Its simple, but many people are to lazy to do a few simple tasks and want everything done for them. The old saying modern computers make people dumb is so true, some cant think for themselves.

On customers PC's I do these tasks, greatly improves performance, none of the so called actions stated happen, and no complaints. The exact opposite actually. Takes on an average PC about a minute to alter.

Some OS's like Linux make the person think as its not a "ill do everything for you" type setup.

1432059 2017-02-22 00:05:00 So THIS (www.howtogeek.com) is all BS! Yep!!

Old story, if places like MS state something cant be done that's a challenge for some of the people with skills to prove it can, or a work around ;)

After some looking found a site that provided a batch file that you can run which disables Windows updates, even on home.

For Windows to download updates it needs to be able to run the inbuilt update program - if for what ever reason it cant, it wont download.

Shortly, as I've only got back from some jobs, I'll post a link to a video I'll make showing it in progress -- Stay tuned, as they say.

That article is a bit old. 10 is an ever changing thing :) Anything 6 months old might be out of date after major update releases.

Turn off WindowsUpdate service . Winupdates now under you control . Could possibly make a batch file to turn that service on & off
Its an awefull way to have to do it, and having to resort to that , well :badpc: :badpc:

Winupdates have allways had issues re doing a major update/install just at the most inappropriate time , not just 10.
And back some years (way before 10), even setting updates to 'notify only" , well MS would still push some in regardless forcing a restart .

1432061 2017-02-22 01:00:00 So THIS (www.howtogeek.com) is all BS! Okey dokey -- Following on from what I posted earlier. The video. Shows running updates - nothing new, disable updates -- OOPS errors, cant run updates something is wrong :( Enable updates, re-run, works fine, then disable again -- Errors.

Its on fresh image I have of a Workshop PC. Manually run the updates first to make sure all were through.

There are two batch files ( as shown) one stops the updates the other restarts them. They are more than simply disabling the update service, (I'll post their content at the end) Normally I'd drop them in the C drive, create a shortcut, then alter it to run as Admin, instead of manually having to right click run as admin. Then simply double click /Yes -Done.

Heres the video link www.screencast.com This is on windows 10 Home

Oh I see, so which Microsoft update removed the compulsory update feature on Windows 10 Home?

Don’t tell me you’re talking about a “Hack” that some Bright Spark has created to beat the Microsoft system.

If so I’ll bet that Microsoft are feverishly working on a Hack to un-hack the Hack.

And what about their “Spyware and Data Collection” feature, is there a “Hack” for that too?

Correct, there are two separate bat files, when saving in notepad ( this is the disable)

7880

- save as - call it what ever you like eg disable updates.bat But in the file type make sure its "all Files"

7881

Select the location and away you go.

if you want to not have to right click / run as admin.

Put it someplace ( maybe a folder, drive) create a shortcut to it, then in the shortcut you can customise the icon, and tell it to run as admin by default ( under Advanced) then you double click it click Yes - a window will flash for a sec, - Done.

1432066 2017-02-22 03:17:00 What we’ve got here is the equivalent of every driver of a Motor Vehicle having to be a Mechanic to keep their vehicle mobile.

Can’t see any Car Company being stupid enough to adopt Microsoft logic. :D
