1431138 2017-01-27 19:13:00 I have the sound of cicadas permanently in my ears so I do not miss them. s.

When we moved to Southland, I commented to husband wasn't it great, no cicadas.
He said, what? I can still here them.

Um, yes, tinnitus.

1431140 2017-02-19 21:35:00 The cicadas have finally arrived. I have heard them over the last couple of days. Roscoe (6288)
1431141 2017-02-20 02:15:00 They make that noise as they go down my cats throat too. Stops when they reach the stomach. pctek (84)
1431142 2017-02-20 02:46:00 Better than having bagpipes around the place . . .
Watering the lawn and garden with a watering can and using the washing machine soapy water from mid January seems to settle their hash . they pop up for some break dancing and the birds deal to them . Don't over-water or the worms will be up too . I assume if you have been washing teenagers' socks, you could wipe out many and varied life forms, at the risk of making your lawns non-negotiable for vehicular traffic of any kind except pressurised aircraft with non-corroding structures, and submarines . The crickets would be the lesser evil here .
