1430529 2017-01-08 22:22:00 Down here in Sub-Antarctic New Zealand we have the Antarctic Ozone Hole which also wobbles and occasionally extends over the South Island of New Zealand.

I think the distribution of land masses in the Northern Hemisphere greatly influences how the weather in that Hemisphere is generally colder at times than here in the Southern Hemisphere, we in NZ have a Maritime Climate which is generally speaking warmer than our Podean (see: Antipodean) equivalent country of United Kingdom, the great mass of water around us and Australia, South America and Africa gives us different weather patterns than Europe, Russia and Canada etc.

1430531 2017-01-08 23:34:00 "BTW I hear the Arctic is some 20C above its' Winter average.
Must be somewhat balmy, perhaps the pictures of polar bears, on sun-loungers, sipping margaritas, etc may be prophetic?"

That's because the weather which should be in the North Pole and surroundings has moved to parts of Europe and America/Canada, Joe's vortex being responsible:

Indeed I was well aware of the cause, hence my comment.
Polar Vortices are quite an interesting phenomenon :)

Unfortunate link to come up with the alarmist “Science Alert” site first one up zqwerty. :D

It seems “Right Now” is 19th November 2016 for them and no mention is made of the actual temperature.

The bottom line is your first link says it is -25ºC “Right now”, and the expected temperature range for this time of the year is between -43ºC and -26ºC as I’ve already posted.

On that basis I don’t think I will panic, but those damn Polar Bears should be put on notice that a “Flatulence Tax” shall be imposed on them if temperatures don’t fall 1ºC. ;)

I can understand the confusion from people who hang by their prehensile tails all the time .

Anyone KNOWS that their days there are sometimes 24 hours long and the nights on the other end of the calendar can be 24 hours long too .

Ever heard of "The Land Where The Sun Never Sets" or conversely too for darkness? Huh?

So, they could be 4:1 for the correct date . I give them a 'pass' on this date discrepancy .

Sheesh - youse guys!

Well Joe I know you people up there are very forgiving with the answers, and frugal with the truth, so I thought I’d consult my Spreadsheet and see what its tolerance to “Now” is .

Must have been a Pedantic bugger that wrote it, as it was right to the minute . “Now” was not give or take Months either way .

Let’s face it, the “Alarmist Headline” was simply a ploy so suck people in and spread alarm no matter when they read it .

Unfortunately, the education system in both our countries has been “Dumbed Down” over the years to the stage that people accept this nonsense without question . :groan:

Nothing wrong with the first link Whenu if we're talking this one:

7800

Nothing wrong with the time or date, and the temperature is not abnormal as I've pointed out.

However, it is this link, the second one, which I take exception to.

7801
