1431718 2017-02-07 21:58:00 I have been using Outlook 2011 for Mac since I bought my computer but recently purchased Office 365 to use on a new laptop. I bought the five-user version so I could use it on my iPad and on my computer, but so far only have it installed on the laptop.

For the past couple of weeks I've been getting an annoying 'error 150' message telling me an unknown error has occurred in Outlook. I've Googled it and found Microsoft is no longer supporting that product, and there also seems to be a problem with Spark, who I am with at present (but not for long, for a variety of reasons).

I'm keen to get rid of the error message as it drives me mad, and I want to use Outlook as I have more than one email address downloading into it rather than having to check several addresses on webmail. It was easy to install Office 365 on the laptop as it had nothing on there (I tend to use only two email addresses on that so have not set up Outlook yet, only Word), but I am a little worried about installing it on the computer as I don't want to suddenly lose all the emails currently downloaded/saved/filed in Outlook 2011.

Same goes for Word on the computer - if I install Office 365, can I still open previously saved Word files?

Sorry for the ignorance, this is the first time I've used web-based software and I don't want to set up the Office 365 version of Outlook (and I am not sure how to do it anyway) only to find all the emails I currently have downloaded in Outlook 2011 disappear or aren't transferred over.

Would I need to get someone to come and install it for me - I know the installation is an easy process, it's the retaining of all the emails I need that is causing me palpitations!

1431719 2017-02-07 22:10:00 PC Office install wont delete docs or old emails.
Worst case is you will have to resetup Outlook & import from the old PST .
If you have macros or custom designed spreadsheets databases etc , then there Might be issues (its not common)

Not sure about Mac's & outlook upgrades
Also, no guarantee that upgrading Outlook will fix xtra/spark email issues .

1431720 2017-02-07 22:47:00 It would pay to copy the current .pst file as a backup, just in case something goes wrong. Easier to make a copy and not need it than everything turn to custard and lose the lot.

Make sure any older copies of Office are removed first, while they should co exist, they don't. Had a lot of problems on a job, the older version of office was stopping outlook 2016 from working, was'nt till the reg was cleaned out of missing and wrongly directed entries and the remainder of the existing 2010 removed that outlook 2016 worked.

Also, no guarantee that upgrading Outlook will fix xtra/spark email issues Can confirm as of 11.30am this morning there are still intermittent problems with spark email sending / Receiving. :badpc:

One error-- "Cant locate secure server", try a minute later, and it works, mail goes out and in, few minutes later again same error. :waughh:

1431721 2017-02-07 23:38:00 Don't worry, Spark will be history within a month, had more problems since we switched to them than we ever had before.

I'll probably get someone to do this for me as I am not au fait with importing from pst files and don't want to lose the lot because I do something wrong and screw everything up!

Thanks all.

1431722 2017-02-08 07:12:00 Is new laptop a Mac as well? On your old Mac you can download Outlook 2016 (as long as Mac is 10.10 or later) from MS as you have Office 365. When starting Outlook 2016 for the first time it will ask if you want to import all information (messages, account info etc) from Outlook 2011. Click Yes and it will do just that and work as expected.

Once you are happy that all working OK trash the Office 2011 folder that is in the applications folder.

1431723 2017-02-09 22:39:00 I use Forte Agent as a mail client, but because I use a Chromebook a lot of the time I set up all my mail accounts on Gmail, but leave them on the server so that I can access them on my master computer later. Before downloading to Agent I use Mail Washer to delete the spam. mzee (3324)
