1430946 2017-01-22 04:53:00 Just had this thought. What are your thoughts on this?

I know this is a IT forum ... I find that there are phones that suits the geeky crowd like Nexus phones and various chinese phones which are very good in the hardware department and battery department, maybe even bang for the dollar and with a nice metal aluminium casing. Then there are premium phones with better cameras and bright glossy higher resolution screens which I may appeal to the greater mass of people out there. For this crowd even the previous or 2nd previous flagship phone of the big four camera brand (Samsung, LG, Sony, HTC) the screen and the camera may still be nicer.

1430947 2017-01-22 08:41:00 I'm not really into groundbreaking phone specs for the sake of geekyness, or cutting edge tech. Just a reliable, well made phone that works, and has reasonable good specs will do me fine for a long time (hopefully!). I have a second hand Nexus 5 that I purchased last year for a good price. I would much rather drool over the specs of a new PC, coming soon. Laggard (17509)

1)Must be a flip phone.

That's it for requirements.

1430949 2017-01-22 19:20:00 I bought a Motorola G4Plus at Xmas. Nice phone for the price ($399) I gave up buying the top end phones a couple of years ago as a lot of the cheaper Chinese ones do just as good if you can stand the iPhone look of the UI but that can be fixed.. paulw (1826)
1430950 2017-01-22 19:29:00 Whatever phone I get must have stock Android (because the overlays are hideous), and USB Type-C.

Hence, I have a Nexus 6P. :D

1430951 2017-01-22 19:40:00 I still don't have a 'smartphone', at first it was because there was no service here.
Now there is service, but I see all these people who are virtual slaves to the things.
Not for me.

1430952 2017-01-22 20:33:00 Ive only just retired my 14year old Ericsson T39 (flip phone) . It was top of the line with a full 2 line mono txt display .

Now use a 3 year old mid price Samsung. :)

1430953 2017-01-22 21:45:00 I had an iphone3 until recently. It was given to me otherwise I would not have a smartphone. It did all I needed at the time but then some apps updated and didn't run on the older operating system so I couldn't access my banking for instance.
I have been given an iphone5 now and it does all I need since it now runs the latest OS. I feel no need for the latest model (and I would have to pay for it).

1430954 2017-01-22 23:15:00 I spent some time reading some test data. iPhones were quicker of the bunch. Their camera and screens may not not so good, the standard iPhones are not even 1080 but the plus versions are but then again even 1 or 2 previous old big Asian brand had a better resolution. I find the Chinese phones are good band for dollar, decent performance and great even better battery life. The better camera might go to Google Pixel. But yeah the Nexus are stock android, I've found LG has the better keyboard though and how you can adjust the height (size) of the keyboard too.

Edit
Tried the Redmi 3. I used to charge my LG G3 up to 2x a day. Ok, maybe I haven't used the Redmi 3 at its full pace yet but I took it off the charger in the morning and at bed time the battery still said 72%. Even if you double the consumption that still leaves 45% left.

Bought a Doro 631 flip, November 2015, $79.20 from the Warehouse. Nice clear screen. Suits all my needs. No problems so far. lol. :)
