1430830 2017-01-20 02:38:00 Our old microwave is getting a bit...annoying. With some buttons not working and the like and it's probably well over 10 years old now.

We're thinking about replacing it, and I'm just interested in PF1's collective opinion on what is decent these days. I'm not even sure what brand our current one is, but from the quick look I've had, the 32L Panasonic ones look pretty nice. Is there really much benefit to the inverter ones?

Would be keen to hear what people have and would recommend (or would recommend against). Thanks! :)

1430831 2017-01-20 06:11:00 We bought an inverter model 3 years ago. SWMBO says I am an old fool but I reckon it doesn't cook as evenly as our old normal one. Both were Panasonic as it happens. No plate so that is one benefit.

1430832 2017-01-20 07:41:00 Inverters use a lot of power. We found out when we purchased a Panasonic 1100 Watt model some time ago. It basically stopped going after a short time. Took it back and got a replacement . Ditto result, ditto replacement. Then, finally read the manual(all else had failed!), seems you need a dedicated circuit. I presume, the Panasonic has not got the capacity to work automatically at a lower wattage. Otherwise we have found it an excellent replacement for our 1st generation model (30 years+) Laggard (17509)
1430833 2017-01-20 10:54:00 Not something I buy too often to build up any comparisons so I checked consumer, their top recommendation is a Sharp R330YS but there are a couple of user reviews that disagree so who knows.
For what it's worth I have a 1200W Sharp Carousel that's got be be pushing 15 years or more old and still no issues. I did have to learn to reduce cooking times or use medium-high though, 1200W is more than most cooking instructions expect.

1430834 2017-01-20 18:05:00 I bought a Panasonic a while ago.
It's a good brand and at the time, was on the cheap list.

Don't actually cook with it, just heat things so I wasn't fussed about other features.
