| 715509 | 2008-10-28 20:06:00 | Using XP Pro SP3, fully up to date, and NOD32. Outlook/MSN/VNC/Remote Desktop are open all the time. I noticed this yesterday, Firefox with 3 tabs open was using upwards of 300mb of RAM, and 50 - 100% CPU. Close FF, re open, uses 60MB or 70MB of RAM for the first few minutes, then RAM and CPU usage starts climbing again. It actually gets to the point where the PC is unusable, FF has to be killed through the task manager. FF is fully up to date, all addons are compatible and up to date (I have a list below, I've disabled the ones I can easily do without), java and flash have both been removed and latest versions installed. No malware on PC. Anyone experiencing this? I'm considering a full reinstall of FF, deleting the app data folders and stuff, i've already done a basic reinstall, but that didn't change anything. Any suggestions, including "Switch to Opera you dumb ****" will be greatly appreciated. :) Application: Firefox 3.0.3 (2008092417) Operating System: WINNT (x86-msvc) Adblock Plus 0.7.5.5 Cooliris 1.8.5.147519 (Disabled) Download Statusbar 0.9.6.3 (Disabled) DownThemAll! 1.0.3 Extension List Dumper 1.14.1 Firefox Showcase 0.9.4.9 (Disabled) Google Toolbar for Firefox 3.1.20080730W IE Tab 1.5.20080823 (Disabled) Java Console 6.0.10 Java Quick Starter 1.0 NoScript 1.8.3.6 Stylish 0.5.7 Undo Closed Tabs Button 3.0.3 (Disabled) URL Fixer 1.4.5 (Disabled) |

Have you come across any info useful about it? All I've found from a worldwide forum crawl is lots of people with similar issues and no real resolution. |

| 715512 | 2008-10-28 20:40:00 | I have 15 tabs open = 177Mb of RAM used Addons = logmein, fireftp & extended status.... I have come across huge RAM usage before, however suspect it in web site links and FF caching behind waiting for the link to be clicked... |

| 715514 | 2008-10-28 20:44:00 | I suppose its the same thing with Opera. In order to make it faster, it must store whatever somewhere to do it And this would probably affect the ram / cpu usage as a result |

| 715515 | 2008-10-28 20:47:00 | FF has been a bit of a RAM hog since version 2, but it was never slow and never raped the CPU. Sol and Speedy are right, it caches heaps of stuff which explains the RAM usage, 100 or 150MB is not overly high, but it's the CPU that's killing the PC. :ban |

So you're not crazy, other people do get it. I don't think I've ever had it in Opera, or at home, only on my work comp which is a PIII with 1.5GB. My home comp has a fair amount more grunt than that, so maybe I just haven't noticed it. |

In order to make it faster, it must store whatever somewhere to do it And this would probably affect the ram / cpu usage as a result Using Opera 6 I currently have 20 tabs open with four of those loading - Mem Usage is 91536K and CPU 02. |
