495398 2006-10-31 03:07:00 Halloween is tonight, and little kids will be knocking on your doors asking for treats, or they will give you a trick. Be careful. :) pcuser42 (130)

495401 2006-10-31 03:53:00 Hate to be Scrooge McDuck but we didn't have Halloween here till kids picked up on it from watching American TV. I kinda resent forking out sweets just because kids have seen other kids do it on TV .... Biggles (121)

I would think that the small ones will be on a WINZ benefit soon. They grow up with their hands out.

One I heard today on Newstalk ZB. A lady leaves am empty cardboard box at the front gate with a notice saying, "Help yourself."

I guess the first children assume they are too late! I have put my box at the front gate already.

As for the so called parents what could I say. If I had a pre-teen there is no way he/she would be wandering the streets by themselves. What happens if they knock on the wrong door?

495406 2006-10-31 05:37:00 Ahhh....bit dodgy Stu!:D

What gets me is the parents of these kids agreeing to have their, presumably beloved darlings, going knocking on the doors of strangers asking for lollies......historical significance won't seem important when they're draining a ditch to find your daughter.....

I've heard the excuse "but we know who lives around here".....to which I responded.....how do you know they are home.....and don't have a house-sitter/renter....

EDIT: Sorry Sweep...we posted same time :)
