| 494964 | 2006-10-26 22:06:00 | Nothing like a wet Sunday to talk cars!:D Looking at buying a car (no trade-in – cash) in the near future. I’m pretty knowledgable on things vehicular, but be curious to get some other opinions. Not sure of budget yet, waiting for a house to sell…..but guessing between $15 - $17k. Also, needs to move two school-aged kids and a toddler every other weekend!! Lets not go there!!! Been looking at an 03 Camry…..like the Toyota reliability….but God is it ugly and boring! I’m not yet old enough to wear cardigans…. Always been a fan of Maxima’s…..brilliant engine, they were even good in the old VL Commodores….looking at the model prior to the most recent one…. Oh yeah…..it must have cruise control…..could be used for a bit of open-road work. Following on from this…..needs to be a minimum of 3.0L. Anything Holden – forget it. Ford man here. Can’t afford a BA/BF Falcon….and wouldn’t be seen dead in an AU. Probably drive a Commodore before I get an AU….Ford tested the patience of this fan with that botch-up!.....But we learn to forgive those we care about aye… Wellington Star had a nice ’97 C240 for $19995. Big Merc fan….and although tempted…as soon as something goes wrong it’s all over coz they are too expensive to fix…AND there was security still registered on the vehicle....beyond me why they even put it on the yard like that..... They also just got in a (AMG) E63….gun-metal grey colour….I challenge anyone to find a better looking car! Salesman took pity on me….the pool of dribble gave me away…and gave me a E-class book of all the models….great read….especially for those on a $15k budget!!! What a car…..anyway….. Looked at a 03/04 Mitsi Diamante for $16995. Again, a very popular and proven donk under the bonnet…..but even uglier than the Camry. And the colour! Kind of a pastel…”I’m a hairdresser and this is my boyfriend Ashley” colour….I’d get an Audi TT if I wanted to send that message…… Same place had a ’98 Diamante…very nice dark green….for about $10995…..nice car, but like my school reports….it shouted “I can do better”….. Then I thought….Suzuki Vitara V6….never driven one…but they have a good name for themselves….room for the kids.....useful for fishing trips....but not sure it would do well on the open-road cruising front….but might give it a shot. Came across a black ’05 Jeep Grand Cherokee……God what a vehicle. Been converted to Jeeps a bit lately....never thought that would happen!!!.... Bit out of the budget mind you...…and being American the dash will fall off and the electrics will fail in a month….but you would be The Man in that thing! :p As long as the gel comes off the tyres when driving over the hairdressers in their TT’s… Also looking at a late-90's Volvo 850….there’s a nice set of wheels….again, bit of an image problem….but if ya can get a good one….and the Swiss know a thing or two about car audio…..until Lexus did their thing with Mark Levinson.. Ahhh....Subaru. Legacy B4. That's on the list....if I can find a decent one. Shame the boy-racers have ruined Subaru's image forever.... Bit of useless information from the did-you-know department. The Subaru badge of four stars is a constellation whose name I can't remember.....and Subaru is the Japanese word for the English name of the constellation. Honda Accord? Too small. Mazda 6? Great car....bit pricey. Any comments people? All suggestions welcome. T |

My policy with those is buy a cheap car for cash, and if repairs come to as much or more than you paid, throw it away and get another one. Never paid more than $1500 tops for one. (Although I once had a classic, but thats a whole nother thing) |
