715529 2008-10-30 03:37:00 Oops, I left out the 9. Should have been 9.6.

Though you knew that, of course. ;)

Weeeellll....... much as I hate to admit it, my brain was having a slow news day - I genuinely thought you meant 6 .

715530 2008-10-30 03:53:00 Here's (www.imagef1.net.nz) a lovely example of what FF is doing. It's been open for about 3/4 hour here.

:groan:

Any suggestions, including "Switch to Opera you dumb ****" will be greatly appreciated. :)

What are you waiting for? Do yourself a favour and switch to Opera. ;)

715534 2008-11-02 21:21:00 Well. :D

Finally bit the bullet, backed up bookmarks and reinstalled FF, deleting all data etc in the process.

It's much better, still seems to use a lot of CPU while loading pages, but on the whole much better.

715535 2008-12-08 07:01:00 Java Quick Starter 1.0

I just had a sudden problem with Firefox CPU usage pegged at 90+% (every time I had several tabs open), and it turned out to be caused by this extension. It started happening right after Java installed an update to Java 6u11, so on a hunch I disabled Java Quick Starter and restarted FF -- and bingo, problem solved.

Worth a shot.
