495774 2006-11-01 21:21:00 Er...pardon me...but that's exactly how I got my update...on all three puters.

Maybe it's a US-thing only, but the update came in automatically with a letter telling me about the discontinuance of the old version.

As people wake up here in the network I have established for friends and relatives (not always the same people), I'll ask them if or how they got theirs.

That was my experience as well so it's not just a US thing.

495775 2006-11-01 22:27:00 Open FreshUI. Navigate to Windows System/Manage the Reserved QoS Bandwidth - set to zero.

And there you have it.

Maybe gilding the lily but that is as my wont.

That is what gives me the killer downloads on dial-up. haha.

If I have not given an adequate explanation please get back and I will endeavour to explicate further.

Thanks zqwerty.
Something to investigate later when I have some comp time.

495776 2006-11-02 05:00:00 From 7.1 free to 7.5 paid? You'd have a point if you'd already done a full scan with 7.5 free and then the paid version found something else that couldn't be explained by a later virus definition file.

The free version was the one off the PC World disc and now I'm running v7.5.427. The free version I was running was set up to do a full scan each morning (which it did). I installed the paid version that later morning, downloaded the updates and did a full system scan. One of the keyloggers was sitting in a exe zipped program that I had yet got around to install and try out.....well I won't be trying that now. :)

...my bad, I posted a question that could be answered by reading the first post in the thread.

PS, I like this edit box coming up in the actual thread page, very nice :)

495778 2006-11-04 05:20:00 Wierd thing is, I upgraded to the paid version and on the first full scan it found 2 virus's and two keyloggers. I guess that's the difference between paid and free. Point to ponder still......lol. There is always difference nothing is free in this world. If everything is free why do we need money?

I don't use AVG, so this thread doesn't really concern me. :)Same. I use paid versions AV. :p BitDefender is the best so many spywares and viruses found compared to free AVG which is ZERO.

495779 2006-11-17 07:40:00 My understanding is, that from january AVG does not update for free anymore. You are suipposed to buy their suite with firewall, anti-ad etc etc.
Next best freebie = AVAST ? Other suggestions ? Paying for NOD32 worth it ?
Cheers

495780 2006-11-17 08:01:00 I see that the 7.5 installer exe has changed in the last day or so, perhaps the 4MB defs file isn't needed now. AV updates are small compared to the stuff coming out of MS. Software isn't patched any more but reissued whole.
..reissued with fresh holes??:D

No, no, the Free AVG version 7.5 is free and will continue to be free....repeat, it is the old version 7.1 that is having support ending in January.

For those interested and there wont be many :), Free version 7.5 can be installed on Windows 95B :)

Any anti-virus program worth it's salt should first erase Windoze (any flavour detected). :waughh:

495783 2006-12-09 03:57:00 As mentioned by others', we have downloaded AVG 7.5 and done the repair option.

This I have asked before, but unable to locate it on this site.

When upgrading to AVG 7.1 and downloading Outlook Express emails, AVG's little window sits down there clocking things in.

How did I put that into "background" last time.

Thanks for the solutione again.

Lurking.
