716342 2008-10-31 18:37:00 May pay for you to disable system restore first

Then tick these as well, then tick fix checked

This belongs to a worm or trojan

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [SVCHOST.EXE] C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\svchost.exe

This may belong to a trojan / keylogger, this is whats bringing up that fung message

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [asus32] "C:\Documents and Settings\Shelley\Application Data\Google\mupd1_2_1165664.exe" <-- find this file AFTER then delete it

Get trojan remover after you tick all of the entries I posted, (after you reboot, its below).

Update it then scan, then select all options under the utilities menu

716343 2008-10-31 20:18:00 You know I find Malwarebytes misses a lot of stuff.
Had one in on Thursday running Malwarebytes and an AV and it had quite a few spywares.

Used HJT, Spybot and ST and it cleared it all out nicely. I have had the same, but then again the next PC may be reversed.

The order I run the programs in are Spyware Terminator, Malwarebytes, Spybot S&D then Spyware Doctor(which I remove after its done).

Sometimes malwarebytes gets items Spyware terminator misses and vice Versa. Old story - as we all know use several different programs as no one will get them all. On a badly infected PC I also use Combofix, then hjt to make sure nothing is left that I could see.

716344 2008-10-31 22:48:00 Things seem much better already.
Thanks for all the excellent help, seems like I have learnt along the way.
HiJackthis is such an excellent little app :)
Like task manager but you can do something except "end process" you can nuke it right out of existance :)

I'd say the computer is running faster also so very happy. The missus will be stoked as we run a business from here :)

And once again for good luck my logfile once everything has been completed.... well except for turn back on system restore.... I assume that was assumed for me to do? :) lol.

Seeing all these lines of..... stuff..... makes me wonder why I left uni.
It's just good brain tickling, alpha state fun.

And cuz you just can't say it enough, thanks guys :)

716345 2008-10-31 23:01:00 That looks better, tick these entries as well, then tick fix checked

Close browsers

I would also uninstall bittorent. Thats probably how you picked up these trojans.

That should be it !

Find this file C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\svchost.exe <-

And C:\Documents and Settings\Shelley\Application Data\Google\mupd1_2_1165664.exe <-, and delete them (make sure you delete the svchost.exe file in the above folder).

The other svchost.exe file (In the C:\windows\system32 folder is a valid windows file)

Then reboot, then you should be able to turn system restore back on

Fairly sure I already got rid of both of these unless I'm missing something?

Also how many svchost files are normal?

SVCHOST.EXE-3530F672.pf c:\windows\prefetch
svchost.exe c:\windows\system32
svchost.exe c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386
svchost.exe c:\windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download\dd9ab5193 501484cf5e6884fa1d22f9e

That's all the svchost's i've found.

I wonder how I'm going to make a useful contribution to this forum?

716347 2008-11-02 03:17:00 Cool, well that should be it then !

What about mupd1_2_1165664.exe ??

You'll have to show all files to see it
Speedy Gonzales (78)
716348 2008-11-02 03:21:00 Hmmmmm...... you're right.
should svchost be running on startup?
the avast keeps bringing it up on startup and asking if i wanna block it.

Any yup mupd1_2_1165664.exe is gone like you after an amusing quip.
I'm not sure if there is even any dust.
Bangbug (14176)
716349 2008-11-02 03:27:00 Umm no, it shouldnt run on startup, but programs do use it

Avast is an AV not a firewall, so it cant block it, but gives you options, what to do with it

WHAT folder is svchost in? When Avast pops up?
Speedy Gonzales (78)
716350 2008-11-02 03:40:00 windows system32 so i guess it's cool? Bangbug (14176)
716351 2008-11-02 03:43:00 Yup, should be OK. Just as long as its not the system32/drivers folder

What does it say?? Does it say the name of a virus / trojan or something?
