The Ghost boot disc, which containers the drivers, or the programmes that activates during the bootup, allowing you to copy the inage from the D to the C, or to make a copy of C and put it on D, is made up of 9 folders and one autorun file. SO I was told that if I want this autorun programme to run off a flash drive at bootup, the flash drive must be bootage, and that you have to actually load a special bit of software onto a flash drive to make it bootable. Mmmm, does that make sense?? Aporosa (5671)
715666 2008-10-29 04:28:00 I would say what they mean by bootable is, it'll need files to boot into DOS .

It wont boot into Windows . From the flash drive

Unless you can manage to install Windows on it (within Windows first)

The autorun . inf file, is probably for a CD .

So, somehow, I dont think its going to work, unless you burn all of those files to a cd, then replace that cd, then boot from it

715667 2008-10-29 04:33:00 I had a look at the CD and it contains NOT an image, but 9 folders and 1 autorun file. It is this "programme" that makes the image, or copies the image back from the D drive to the C drive. I was told that to get this "programme" to autorun at bootup, I must have a flash drive that is bootable, and supposedly you can get software off the net to do this. Unfortunatly in computing, everything sounds easy until you actually try it... Aporosa (5671)
715668 2008-10-29 04:35:00 Well like I posted before, copy those files and the autorun.inf file to the flash drive, then reboot. Change the bootdisk to the flash drive, see if it boots Speedy Gonzales (78)
715669 2008-10-29 04:39:00 Ok, will do it soon and let you know...... Aporosa (5671)
715670 2008-10-29 05:58:00 Ok, I copied the files to the flash drive, I moved the flash drive to the top of the boot list in bios, and rebooted. The flashdrive flashed (that being the little light inside), there was a pause, and then a single line came across the top of the screen "no bootable portion in table". So, I reckon if I could make the falsh drive bootable (I have no idea how to do this), I could sort this beast.... what say you? Aporosa (5671)
715671 2008-10-29 06:12:00 Open the autorun . inf file what does it say??

What file does it point to, so it can run?

You may have to format the flash drive (did it come with any programs / utils)?

Once you format it copy those folders and file back to it . Then see what happens

Unless there's a file (from the files you copied) in the main root folder of the flash drive), I dont think it'll work .

It'll need something to boot from (like an exe file or something), and it'll have to work in DOS

715672 2008-10-29 06:38:00 Does the ghost program you have installed on the computer, not have a utility for making bootable CD's or floppy's? SolMiester (139)
715673 2008-10-29 06:54:00 No, it doesnt. But I am currently downloading a programme that claims it will do it all, even put the files I need directly onto my flash drive. www.howtogeek.com will let you know. The instructions are all working fine so far..... either that or its melting my HDD. fingers crossed X Aporosa (5671)
715674 2008-10-29 08:01:00 Ummm that may work but as it says its for Ubuntu / Linux.

Linux and Windows, arent the same thing

Windows files probably wont work in it
