495816 2006-11-02 04:26:00 Actually Microsoft are going to release DX10 for XP under the name DX9.0L.
Opps i was wrong, that'll teach me for not confirming anything i read on The Inquirer  DX 9.0L is actually DX9 for Vista.

495817 2006-11-02 05:36:00 I have just read a few reviews for FlightSim X. The advertising blurb says it runs great on XP and better with Vista.

Maybe Jack will have a mind change.

Already tried it with Vista. IMHO it's not any better.

495820 2006-11-02 21:40:00 PC World should expand on the open-source front. From evaluating the latest distros and other opensource applications.

It seems nearly all the reviews I read are for Windows based products and shareware. And yes the majority of people use Windows. But more effort should be given to opensource based offerings too. I understand GIMP is really good, and I am sure there are other equally good opensource alternatives.

If PC world want to continue to be an unbiased objective magazine, it needs to make more effort on the opensource front. i.e. if Linux is more written about in mainstream magazines like PC World, more people might be enclined to try it.

A side by side comparison between Vista and Ubuntu as an example in a later edition.

And watch the flames fly ? It might me a bit like comparing a lemon with a peach. They are different animals, so pick the one that suits you, that's the only test that matters. Of course, trying all the flavours of Vista involves a bit of fiscal drag, but little willie won't mind.

495822 2006-11-02 22:05:00 Well we definitely weren't transcribing a Microsoft press release...

495823 2006-11-02 22:08:00 My main complaint is that there is not enough coverage of "open-source" from http://sourceforge.net/ KiwiTT_NZ (233)

It won't be until a Direct X 10 update for it - which MS has promised - is released in the new year after Vista goes retail. Various FSX team members are on record as stating you get a 5% performance hit currently under Vista.
