I can vouch for that.....last Christmas it was, a friend who operates a language school rang in a panic, she was getting a throughput of 15000+ emails a day.....her email address was displayed on her web page! :horrified

This raises an interesting question - what is the safest way to display an email address on a website (i.e. for a business that needs to display contact emails, etc.)?

495564 2006-11-01 03:54:00 You can't afford to have you're email displayed in the clear on a webpage. You've got to hide it behind forms where it cannot be sniffed by any type of bot because if it is in the open it will be trawled and added to spam lists.

Without spam filtering I'd get around 200-300 spams a day (I know, cause I can see them in the third party spam filter system at the ISP), cause my various work addresses have been in the clear for so many years. I still get spam addressed to email aliases that haven't been used in six years .....

495565 2006-11-01 04:36:00 You can of course use an image of your email address. It isn't worth building OCR into spiders so you should be safe. TGoddard (7263)

it would be fairly trivial for spambots to parse that into an actual email address. Trademe checked for that for a while when they didn't let sellers & buyers communicate directly.

I like the image idea. However, if you linked the image to a mailto: command, would that defeat the purpose? (I imagine it would)
