495114 2006-11-04 02:01:00 It might pay to wait until Xnet release their new plans next Monday. IMO, they have the best deals in terms of price/performance (i.e. speed/data cap), esp. now Ihug has changed it's plans. For example:

Ihug: $60 - Max/128 10GB ($50 if you use Ihug for your landline and tolls)
Xnet: $42.95 - 2Mb/128 10GB (no extra charges to keep your existing tolls)

Although Ihug are offering max download, experience has shown that this is a very minor benefit, if you ever actually reach those speeds. And as I said, next Monday the new Xnet plans are coming out - if their past offerings are anything to go by, expect something pretty good.

To top it off, Ihug throttle you back to dial-up speed when you go over 10GB. Xnet have overages, meaning you can keep on enjoying those blistering () speeds.

It's a pretty clear choice, IMO. I'm surprised that anyone bothers with Ihug/Xtra these days...

ok, so you need the bandwidth/data... i'd ask the neighbours what speed they get

495115 2006-11-04 02:58:00 I'm on Ihug's $49.50 plan and am quite satisfied with it.
Remember the speed you get is controlled, in part, by how far you are from the exchange. It's not Telecom's fault if you live miles from the nearest exchange. So it doesn't matter what speed you sign up for
I connect at about 3000 with the 3500 plan.

i do appreciate living in a remote location is not telecoms worry, but is it their fault if your exchange can't handle all the traffic it gets? or the cable run down your road cannot handle more than one BB connection forcing everyone else to go wireless - the extra expensive sort because you cannot see the skytower? thats the situation in parts of west-west auckland, only 10minutes form central henderson, 2 minutes from the suburbs... sounds like inadequate supply from the supplier ie. telecom who are/were trying to ensure they are the only supplier in auckland region.
