495916 2006-11-02 00:01:00 Anyone watch Vodafone on fairgo last night, when they tried to explain why someone on a self imposed limit of $150 on their mobile phone, was able to go over their limit to the tune of approx $750. The high amount over the limit was because they were using mobile internet through their phone, and vodafones systems didn't allow their limiting system to work with data charges.
I thought vodafones reason for exceeding the cap was a joke. They explained that because the user had viewed international websites, that vodafone aren't billed by their own providers until days, if not weeks later, so the bill isn' worked out until they have recieve their own bills, and then they onbill their customer. So they say they have no way to know how much their customer has used until they get their own bills in.
What I don't understand, is if the user was on a prepay phone, the billing for mobile internet is worked out the same day, and deducted from the existing credit. This both protects the customer, and vodafone from incurring huge data costs
If it can be done with prepay the same day, why can't it be done with an on account customer. Sounds very fishy to me.

She didn't say that though, she spun some other stupid reason.

495920 2006-11-02 02:52:00 According to the program, it costs $5.25 for every web page you visit !!:( Peter H (220)
495921 2006-11-02 03:41:00 Yeah I saw that. Straight afterwards they showed Telecom trying to fatten their already fat pockets. :(

Edit:

According to the program, it costs $5.25 for every web page you visit !!
Ah no, that was to visit the Fair Go website. It costs 2 or 5 cents per KB, I can't remember which.

That was the parents fault for giving her son a phone with no boundaries. Kids should should only be given pre paid phones unless they are paying the bill themselves. At least telecom give a warning when you start racking up charges for mobile internet. When I use my vodaphone to browse the internet there is no warning or message that teel you how much you have spent.

495924 2006-11-02 10:45:00 Feel sorry for the guy who used roaming in Russia and clocked up a $37,000 bill.
I can understand the difference between ordinary phone use and internet use. The phone itself can tell you how much data you have used so there is realy no need to blame Vodafone.
