2006-10-31 02:53:00 | Hi Guys, ChatF1.co.nz and ChatF1.net.nz will be back up and running tomorrow. However the software we are running (a derivative of phpMyChat) is getting pretty outdated, and is generally quite laggy. Therefore I think it’s about time we looked for a new open source web based chat software that is compatible with most browsers, (Safari / Firefox / IE), doesn’t require any special plugins, is secure, and most importantly fast. Once we have found a package that fits the criteria then we can start the moddding & testing phase, and finally transfer all the users from the incumbent system over to the new one. I would like to get input from the PressF1 community on this project, and prefer to keep everything as open as possible, (rather than just 1 or 2 people doing all the work). Dannz has been looking into some software already for me……. Cheers Liam

2006-10-31 03:06:00 | I have put a suggestion forward about software. But even if that isnt chosen, im putting forward an offer of development "space" for chatf1. i have plenty of space on a web hosting account, and i can give multiple FTP users access (or we could even be real smart and use svn ;) ) Cheers Daniel

(It will be setup later this week once the domains start working again) |

2006-10-31 11:00:00 | It all seems like good news, but I think the coffee machine will need to go into turbo mode at nzliam's place(s) | R2x1 (4628) | |
2006-10-31 11:25:00 | It all seems like good news, but I think the coffee machine will need to go into turbo mode at nzliam's place(s) Between work, rides and Track Days I'm pretty busy at the moment, hence I would like to see some of the young php whiz kids on F1 get involved ;) I setup the original Chat room when I had a lot more free time and was very actively involved in PF1, a long time ago, (today is the first time I have logged-in, in about a year).

2006-10-31 11:29:00 | I've been away a bit myself. As I recall, you used to spend a lot of time travelling, and testing a new coffee machine when not fixing chatf1 | R2x1 (4628) | |
2006-10-31 21:23:00 | Some good coffee made by that machine i hear............:p but we installed a bar as well as the coffee machine in chat......... and so the party is always there...........as long as you give notice for people to attend....... spot ya on friday every one. beetle:D

2006-10-31 23:38:00 | I *might* consider writing a custom AJAX based solution sometime this summer; learning to use AJAX is on my list of things to do - so why not make it now :D What do people think - better to go with something tried and true, or something new and customised? Note also that I can't guarantee I'll be able to do it, but I can certainly try.
