2008-11-01 08:35:00 | ok. i think i'm really unlucky with computers. i hv window vista, home premium. i use windows media player. and installed k-lite codec pack full 4.1.7. i used to have real alternative 1.82 installed, and it played rmvb file fine in windows media player. it just suddenly stopped working one day. i thought my file was corrupted. but i try new files and it still doesn't work. so i downloaded real alt 1.90, installed that. and it still doesn't work. i hv tried uninstalling everything, and reinstalled the codec pack and real alt. still doesn't work. i couldn't get it to work in media classic, or media centre either. i read all the forums, ppl dnt seem to hv much problem with real alt. can someone please please help me. i really don't want to install the real player. and all my video files are in .rmvb format. please. thanks for your help.

2008-11-01 09:42:00 | Welcome to PF1 - you can try VLC Player (www.videolan.org) - no idea if it plays Real Video, but it does play Real Music - cant test it as I dont have any real Videos. OR try Total Video Player (http://total-video-player.en.softonic.com/) - its part of the VLC family - it's meant to play Real Video ?? Edited: no idea if it works on Vista - VLC does, so hopefully Total will as well. Edited 2: GET Total Video Player - Real Video is in its play list Just looked (www.imagef1.net.nz)

2008-11-01 10:12:00 | thanks a lot for that suggestion. i tried installing TVP, it played the file the first time round. then i rewind, and the program crashed. since then i can't open a rmvb file. it says can't find audio and video codec. need to install real one player. is there another way around this?

2008-11-01 20:04:00 | Does it only do this on Real Format Videos or others as well ? Also do you have Vista with SP1 installed?

2008-11-03 07:34:00 | i tried it with .avi file, no problem there. then tried a .wmv file. it says it's attempting to load ffdshow. and i need to choose to use or don't use. I clicked use ffdshow (just this once). then it crashes and close the program.

2008-11-03 07:40:00 | Try uninstalling the k-lite codec pack, & ffdshow if it doesn't come out with k-Lite, then reboot and try your video files again. I had this PC I'm on suddenly start locking up last year on videos, removed k-lite, then used the other players I posted and all's well - no more lockups. Just meant I couldn't use Windows Media Player for some formats - no great lose.

2008-11-03 08:16:00 | i uninstalled k-lite codec pack. and real alternative. which means i can't play .avi files with window media player or media centre. but ok with total video player. definitely not .rmvb files with any programs tho. in TVP it says "cannot load real audio/video codec, please install real one player." btw, i just updated to SP1, but these problems existed before that. thanks so much for your patients.

2008-11-03 08:32:00 | Hmmmm Okay - try reinstalling real alternative on its own or get ffdshow separately from here (www.free-codecs.com) -- ffdshow on the left. I used to have the whole k-lite pack but now I dont as it caused some problems, but I do have ffdshow installed.
