497460 2006-11-08 03:48:00 Hi,

What is a good modem and what to look for?

Any suggestions of a good ISP? What I want to look for is Max/128k with a modest data amount, then to dialup speed. I don't want to keep paying even if they have overage or per 5GB per overs.

If a non Telecom ISP has fair use mgmt policy, I can take its the same/similar to Telecom's policy?

If a house has 5 phones. Can a person use 5 line filters? Or is a line wire required? This Telecom does for $150 right? To get it all working what it the time to exepct?

Thanks.

Stay away from Xtra ;), & maybe try a smaller ISP, Who Is your ISP now?

Why don’t you give Clear / Telstraclear broadband a try & see what its like, it will save you changing your e-mail address :)

& if your unhappy with Clear / Telstraclear broadband you can always move :D

497464 2006-11-08 04:17:00 Umm.. not really. B/c I can use mail forward to my new ISP and download it there for free. :D I used to do this at uni when I had RJ-45 BB in my bedroom. I don't call this BB at all :)

I will have a look of Telstraclear and see their offerings. Their cable modems a bit on the expensive side though.

497465 2006-11-08 04:39:00 I paid for my own modem through Dick Smith, cos we wanted two computers on broadband, and with a 2.0mb up and 128 down, we have a 10 gig limit, and cuts back if you get to that, instead of getting a new bigger bill. No contracts, and no having to change tolls. We got that for $42.95, through Xnet www.xnet.co.nz
And I have no complaints with the service. Have been connected with them for 4 months. The plans have most likely changed a little, but it is worth looking at.

497466 2006-11-08 04:55:00 Would a subscription still be worth it? I mean the $100 connection fee and the $100 modem fee.

If a person didn't do the subscription, is the wire fee $150 and the connection $100 require too? A total of $250?

Edit. We have 5 phones hence the rewire fee.
