| 717441 | 2008-11-04 19:50:00 | Gidday all. Yes, I know, there's a 1000 threads on this subject, so I guess one more won't matter! I've forgotton my Windows password, and despite tipping my house on it's arse I can't find my original XP discs either. I've searched for ages online, and I'm left with the impression that apart from taking 'puter to a shop which I don't have the $$$'s for......I'm screwed. Agree?? HOWEVER......I do have XP on my lappie. Is there anything there that could help? I saw somewhere it's possible to make a recovery disc/k, but that needs to be done on the PC effected. HELP!!!! TIA |

| 717442 | 2008-11-04 19:56:00 | Easy - ( famous last words) Start the PC, keep tapping F8 on startup, select safe mode, when it finishes running through the loading There will be two accounts, yours and Administrator - select Administrator, when it boots, go into control Panel/ User accounts, Select your normal account, select " Change password" type in new password, reboot and log in with the new Password you just created. And XP is how secure ??? |

| 717445 | 2008-11-04 20:14:00 | yes its that easy - the trick comes if the Administrator has been pass worded as well and you don't know it. When in the user Accounts you can also select Remove password, then reboot normally, and it will boot without a Password prompt, then you go back in and create a new password. Have to do this all the time with customers who say they dont have a log in password - but when the PC boots - guess whats there :angry. There are several ways to change passwords - the above doesn't need any other CD's etc. Q Man - if you didn't have that user Name of user1 - then from memory you have spyware thats created the account - does it give you the administrator account as mentioned above. |

If so, it may need to be enabled in the BIOS. Restart the computer and start tapping the Delete key to get into the BIOS to enable it. |

| 717449 | 2008-11-04 21:06:00 | If all of the above doesn't work - there are ways - The one I use all the time to break passwords( even admin), run restore if the system wont boot and a list of many other things is to use UBCD4W (www.ubcd4win.com) - It requires a bit of work to make the CD, but its worth having if you regulatory fix PC's. There are other ways / Software that has been mentioned in the posts before - but I don't have any idea as to which threads. NOTE: sorry for the length of this - but sometimes it gets asked " How to build the CD" so its been pre Written. Heres What you do to make the UBCD4W - FULL Instructions - on the working PC, turn off any antivirus and antispyware - some of the components are seen as infections from the install.exe - they aren’t its just the way it works, any antivirus may damage the install and stop it from working. ( it is Harmless) Install the UBCD4Win .exe on the working PC - follow the instructions as it goes, use default settings - While its installing it will ask for verification to make sure its installed correctly - select yes - when it asks for the update patch select YES - it will check if there is any and advice.. Once installed it will say run the program ( box ticked) select yes - it may pop under the current open box so check. Agree to any prompts/ Licenses etc. Next it will ask to search for the windows install files - select YES - it will search, NOW as long as the PC has the I386 folder installed it will locate it - if it doesn’t you will need a XP CD to copy the I386 folder to the PC, other wise it WONT WORK. Make sure there is a Blank CD in the drive After it locates the I386 folder, ( either right away or if you have copied it to the Hard Drive from the XP CD) select it - select Burn to CD/DVD Click Build - You may get a message saying folder doesn’t exist - select YES to make the folder it wants - you will see a LOT of files being copied and a lot of activity - touch nothing - it will burn the CD - may take 5-10 minutes. IF for some reason it doesn’t burn the CD (this does happen on slower PC’s sometimes ) - Open the program from the desktop ( new Icon there) this time select create ISO image. Then using your Image burning software create a CD from the image in the install folder, usually C:\ Once CD is made - boot from the CD - takes a few minutes Navigate to the The following as shown (www.imagef1.net.nz), in the box that opens select the Reopen Button - Select your Account, Click Change password - Type in new Password - Click OK / Save Changes, Click the Start button - Turn off Computer - From the Drop down Box Select Restart / Eject - the PC will Reboot and log in with the New pass word you just created. Off to do some work - customer Finally is home. :) |

Hello stranger! The keyboard works (can F8 to access Safe Mode), it's just the arrow buttons don't work in the screen where I need to move the cursor up to select Safe. But.....I'm further ahead now than I was at 8 this morning!!! |
