| 498861 | 2006-11-13 21:37:00 | My neighborhood (don't ask where) sucks so much ....... had a gang fight several months ago IN my yard. Put blood all over my washing!! I told the cops they could keep it. My son was walking home on Sunday after picking up his mate and they were stopped by 2 guys on bikes and made to empty their pockets. My son had nothing on him but his friend lost his psp. They are only 12/13 and are pretty much screwed up because of it. GRRRRRRR im so angry!!! Dont think it would matter if i moved to a diff area but OMG getting so sick of it!:mad: |

Sorry Greg, I disagree- most thugs are just bullies who themselves up on a pillar of sand- they rely on your fear to get what they want from you . Front up to the loud one if your back is to the wall, and pillar will dissolve . While the best way of getting out of trouble is to not get in it (either don't be there or run!), the discipline and skill that comes from martial training will always be of use in most aspects of life, and size while helpful is not the be all and end all- Thai boxers are not the largest of people, but they are the hardest fighters in the world . Why? Because of their discipline and training . If never you mind's son wants to train then great, just ensure he has an open mind about the training and be aware that there is a lot to learn- no way will he become Chuck Norris in six months . . . nor should he want to be . Having said that, man, if the area is that bad, why the hell are you still there? Gang fights? Muggings? Your son and his mates are approaching the age where this is gonna happen a lot- are you guys realy in the right place? |

I use to live nearby their area and it is really annoying for the first time living in NZ so after a year later I moved to a better place. And it is so peaceful on the street. You can't win with one person here, the best solution is moved away. |

You need to stop watching "feel good" drama's on TV, in real life bad people dont give a damn about how TV portrays bullies, they just crack your skull and enjoy doing so, And if you have a bit of fight in you or gripped by fear, They still have their fun. Plenty of dead hero's in our waterways, If your going to stand up to em make sure your big, bad, angry and f'kn nasty yourself...and capable of fighting for your life, Because thats what you can end up doing as soon as one of em slips a kife in your belly. |

| 498870 | 2006-11-14 09:24:00 | Metla, where did I say you had to be a hero- if you are backed into a corner and can't escape, you have few options- the average untrained guy with no experience will be beaten to a pulp . I am not saying that training in x martial art will mean you are capable of defending yourself- going up against an experienced streetfighter is a quick way of getting a hiding, as most (civilised) people simply don't have the ability/need to lower themselves to that level of brutality . Many of those with martial arts training will find themselves in the same position because they think their 'training' will help them, over-inflating their egos and giving them the belief they can handle any situation; many martial arts nowadays are sport-based and simply have no basis in claiming any self defence, hence my saying keep an open mind, get fit and do your research . If you are in a fight on the street you will get hurt . Having said that, being smart enough through common sense and training to either see a situation and get the hell out of dodge before the worst happens, or if caught at least minimise damage to yourself/ make them stop so you get away is a damn sight more acceptable than simply standing/lying there and hoping/ praying they don't kill you . |
