498497 2006-11-12 19:42:00 I am a Broadband and Toll Call customer with Ihug. Now I want to change my phone line account to them too.

BUT they tell me I can not do that unless I also sign up for other addons that I have no earthly use for. I don't have a cell phone and I never phone anyone with one either. I don't care about call waiting or any other one of their extras. But I have to pay for them anyway.

So my Tolls will be going back to Telecom. And I will have to find another BB supplier and stuff you Ihug!

Good question.

498500 2006-11-12 21:58:00 Atm, it appears ANY new plan is likely to be worse than almost any old plan. Hold all tickets until the judges announce the result of an enquiry :groan: R2x1 (4628)
498501 2006-11-13 00:05:00 I'm obviously behind the times here, as I didn't realise other ISPs are already able to supply a basic landline account like Telecom has always done - though I knew it was coming.

But are you saying, Jack, that ihug won't give you that, even when you already have broadband & tolls with them?

If so, presumably they'd make some kind of financial loss - maybe in charges from Telecom?

But it does sound like very bad PR, if it creates lots of dissatisfied customers like you.

They require you to have a landline plus some plan
Talk 0 = $10 for unlimited calls to a specific 021 number
Talk 1 - $15 for unlimited off peak national calls
Talk 2 - $20 for unlimited anytime national calls
Talk whatever it is - $40 unlimited international calls

You dont have to have broadband with them to have phone services.
You don't have to have call waiting or answerphone or other - but you can.

I like it. Stuff Telecom.

498503 2006-11-13 03:10:00 If you don't use them, don't. It'll be nice to use once you get into the 21st century. :D pcuser42 (130)

I think the point JJJJJ is saying is they are making you take a rental with a toll plan. It may in some cases work out cheaper but the fact that you have to do it is the problem.
I agree with JJJJJ that I would never go there because I would be lucky to make $2 worth of toll calls in a month - so why force people to pay for a service they will never use?

I did read on this forum before that someone challenged this and they were actually given the basic line rental charge only - but they had to fight for it.

498505 2006-11-13 04:14:00 What I even hate the most is you need to have a phone service before you can use ADSL. I don't use my home phone, but I am force to pay extra $40 odd bucks a month so that I can use ADSL. SKT174 (1319)
498506 2006-11-13 06:27:00 I guess. However why not have tolls with someone esle then? Orcon, Slingshot?

Or if you don't want a landline at all but do want broadband - Woosh.

There will be more choices coming available as more of them do it.
