717461 2008-11-05 01:05:00 The BIOS password has nothing to do with the windows password.

Theyre completely different

Go into the BIOS and set it to its defaults, then reconfigure the settings

But that wont fix the windows password either

717462 2008-11-05 01:08:00 Has anyone suggested NT Password reset yet? If we're getting a bit desperate that works great, as long as you have access to another PC with a CD RW drive and a blank CD, I can provide links and instructions of you want, and if the keyboard seems to work at a BIOS level you should be fine. wratterus (105)

717465 2008-11-10 01:18:00 got a ibm netvista pc on trademe to replace my 'melted' old pc. comes with password protected win 2000 making the box useless.

all it will do is ask for password, can access f1,f12,f8 safe mode although no further ahead.

cannot see any way of booting from cd as have a hirens v9.0 cd to work with.

717467 2008-11-10 03:16:00 Welcome to PF1 Wiilliis - shouldn't really hijack another thread, but since its actually along the same lines should be fine :)

loginto the BIOS / usually it will flash across the bottom of the screen as to what key to press - you have to be quick - if it doesn't show, try pressing the Tab key that may show it.

To use Hirens v9.0 try this - --- These are instruction for Version 9.6 on XP, so hopefully they will be similar.

You'll need to use the arrow keys - mouse doesn't work

Boot from CD - If not already selected - 9 = next, <Press Enter>
Move up to 4 = Password & Registry Tools----
1 = Active Password Changer
Select logical drive --- press Enter when asked - when it gets to 0\windows\system32\config\Sam press Enter

Follow instructions through till you get to X "Clear this users password"

Press Y follow instructions ( keep hitting Esc) then reboot -

Password now removed and will boot right into windows.
