498517 2006-12-06 11:02:00 I am about to join you JJJJJ.

I am currently with Ihug on an old Bliink Lite 256k/128k 4GB plan (along with tolls) and have been a member with them since their infancy back in the 1990's.

A couple of days ago I phoned them to ask about upgrading to their BB2 plan and was told that it would be $50 per month. I asked about the $10 discount for having my toll account with them. Was told that the $10 discount would not apply unless I purchased a bundled package of home phone & calling plan at an additional minimum of $30 per month. No thanks, I told them ... I don’t spend $30 per month on tolls but I would be happy to maintain my tolls with them as a stand-a-lone and did not require any additional add-ons. Ihug were unable to offer the $10 discount for just retaining tolls and they would not make any exceptions to this, they told me. I said that I would now review my options with other ISPs who were offering exactly what I required (faster BB +competitive tolls) at no addition to the base cost I was currently paying Ihug.

Ihug used to be an innovative company but it appears all to have turned to custard once the Aussies bought them and seem to have gone even further backward now that Vodafone have purchased them. They have now become divorced from market reality. Their inflexible position and their ‘stuff the customer’ attitude will surely see a lot of loyal customers walking.

I will be an ex-Ihug customer by early next week.
I find it amusing that you can think that in the short time Vodafone has owned them that it could have any great effect.

I don't see why not. Vodafone may have had plans long before they made the purchase?

I am sorry but having plans and implementing them are two different things.

Well obviously it has. It was only after Vodafone became involved in thier ownership that Ihug introduced "bundled packaging" of home phone & calling plans and made having that as a requirement in order to qualify for a $10 discount off the broadband account. No other ISP (as far as I am aware) imposes the requirement of a calling plan.

Anyway, I dont care any more .... they have lost me as a customer as I have moved elsewhere.

Well all I can say is you are not very aware as Quicksilver has had that for ages and Xtra/Telecom have also got it and why shouldn't they have some clause for a discount. What makes you so important that you deserve a discount no matter what.
And once again to quote R2x1 " How will you hold your specs up once your nose is gone?"

498522 2006-12-07 22:49:00 They can do whatever they like .... it is just that their "requirements" together with the total costs involved (BB + Home Phone + Calling Plan) does not suit me and I can get what I need at a far cheaper overall cost elsewhere than what Ihug were wanting me to pay. So I excerised my discretion and found a provider that could meet my needs.

The point I was making was that I was an Ihug customer wanting to simply upgrade my BB speed from an old 256k 4GB $39.95 plan (with tolls) to a 2Mbps 3GB $39.95 plan (with tolls) but was frought with having to buy additional services (that I did not need) over and above what I already had.

Sure, Quicksilver (now Woosh) offers a VoIP phone package but I dont see any requirement to take a calling plan (i.e. a fixed $$$ amount per month to make phone calls to either cells, national or international) as well.
