Once CD is made - boot from the CD - takes a few minutes

...

I'm sure this sort of approach would work with BartPE too, but what If you can't change the BIOS to 'boot from cd' :)

That default Administrator account can and should be password protected too!!!

Usually reset the BIOS back to default - if its locked out, remove battery for a while - or use the reset jumper on the board to default - then change the BIOS as required .

Theres always a way

717453 2008-11-04 21:37:00 Hello stranger!

The keyboard works (can F8 to access Safe Mode), it's just the arrow buttons don't work in the screen where I need to move the cursor up to select Safe .

Howdy!

Clutching at straws here but does the "down" arrow work? What about the arrows on the number pad? Press the Num Lock key to disable the numbers and then try the number 8 or 2 buttons on the number pad .

Failing that, got another keyboard you can try? I can't think of any other reasons why the arrow keys aren't working . :dogeye:

Umm..... no. :p

I don't suppose the mouse works, does it? (REALLY clutching at straws now!) :badpc:

It would easier to just remember your password!! :waughh:

717457 2008-11-04 23:12:00 Longer Shot - With PC Off - try changing the USB port that keyboard is connected to - Reboot.

If it will let you into the BIOS, double check USB legacy is set to Enabled, not Auto - or if a separate option USB keyboard - Enabled not Auto

I KNOW!!!!

aaarrrgghhhhhh.....been trying to remember it since the weekend.

I set it about 4 years ago, and I'm old so my memory is shot :annoyed:

Keyboard and rodent work fine.....it gets me into THAT screen by pressing F8, and then....nothing.

Maybe I should hit it with something....

717459 2008-11-04 23:59:00 More straws here, but if I remember correctly, the items on the F8 menu are numberd. Try pressing the numerical buttons (above the letters, not the number pad). Failing that, got any other keyboards around? ubergeek85 (131)
717460 2008-11-05 00:04:00 No other keyboards....but it seems to work anyway. It's fine when I want to do anything other than move up to the Safe Mode selection...

odd....after the 50th time re-booting I got a message like:

"CMOS Checksum Error - resstore to defaults"

I pressed enter and got into....BIOS?

It asked me if I wanted to set User password? Umm...does a bear **** in the woods???

So I changed it, but made no difference to Windows. So I'm guessing it wasn't related :waughh:
