717990 2008-11-06 00:54:00 I’m trying to join 3 snapshots together to make a Panoramic View but can’t find a way in Infranview or The Gimp to adjust horizons and in my case a road in the foreground.

I have found the Panorama function in Infranview but can’t find a way to adjust anything. I can’t even find that function in The Gimp.

Anyone point me in the right direction? :thanks

717991 2008-11-06 00:59:00 Maybe you need a camera that has the "stitch" function programmed into it :(

Oops - maybe I should have run a Google search first before I opened my mouth :)

A search of Google "stitch function +photographs" revealed 2.3 million hits.

Try www.steves-digicams.com as a starter :)

717992 2008-11-06 01:09:00 Hi B.M. It's not the camera but the programme that makes this work well. I use Microsoft Digital Image 2006 and this requires virtually no alignment from me, provided that there is an element of overlap at one side of the shot. The most I have ever asked it to stitch in a panorama is 9 shots (a wrap-around of my back garden) and it did it beautifully. I'm sure that any number of modern programmes will do similar. 717993 2008-11-06 01:42:00 Try the demo Autostitch www.cs.ubc.ca PaulD (232)
717994 2008-11-06 02:08:00 Thanks Guys.

Autostitch can't produce anything other than a message "No Image Matches Found".

I really think I need to be able to adjust them manually.

Along the lines of stretching and shrinking photos until the vital parts like horizon and road match and then cropping the whole thing to make a tidy photo.

Most of the bits in the middle are grass and bush so no vital matching there.

717995 2008-11-06 03:15:00 Did you allow for about 30% overlap on one side of each picture? Makes it a lot easier to do manually. Scouse (83)

Unfortunately no.

This is just a brainwave that has come to me after looking at the pictures. Stitching them was not premeditated in any shape or form.

Will keep it a consideration in future. :)

717997 2008-11-06 03:52:00 I have done this several times with Gimp but:
(1)The pics need a bit of overlap
(2) all taken preferably at the same time but essential that light conditions are
as near as possible to 100% the same.
(3) each pic is impoted as a layer then matched to the previous one.

I have done a panorama of 5 pics with no problems..

717998 2008-11-06 07:00:00 If you want to invest a little, Photoshop Elements has a function that does the job. The Auto mode is usually sufficient but there are other options including a manual mode. Shortstop (632)
