717691 2008-11-05 18:26:00 New model, ASUS X56A.

Running Vista Business.

Customer has a Netgear router and the laptop cannot see any wireless at all.
I went through things on the phone with him, and it doesn't appear to be a driver problem, its all happy in device manager etc, networks show both a LAN and a WLAN icon, and no probs with either.

Woosh helped him set up the router, it all works with cables connected just not wirelessly.

Its a bit tricky as he lives 174km away.

ASUS brilliant suggestion is to download and use new drivers from ASUS website. The problem is they don't have Vista drivers there only XP. I queried that and they said it will be fine to use the XP drivers. Hmmm. I can see a BSOD happeneing there. I don't think its a driver problem anyway.

And yes this thing was built with Vista as default, don't ask me why they haven't got Vista drivers on the website yet.

I don't know what else to suggest for him..........any ideas?

717693 2008-11-05 19:14:00 No malware on the laptop?
Friend had a similar problem the other day with a wireless connection.
Ran some scans and removed all malware and the wireless worked sweet after that.
What wireless card is it? Intel?
You could download the latest drivers from their site for Vista.

717694 2008-11-05 19:24:00 I know this is an obvious thing (and you may have checked it), but does he have the wireless on/off switch toggled to off - either the physical switch or via function keys? Jen (38)
717695 2008-11-05 20:14:00 Safari - thats not helpful, it has NO connectivity at all, not limited or otherwise. It doesn't see anything at all.

Cyabro - No malware. Thats a point, he could try Intels site although I don't think its drivers.

Jen - that occurred to me, I'm emailing him this morning with another list of things for him to try.

717696 2008-11-05 21:08:00 The SSID is broadcasted?, no encryption?....try a different channel? no phone or other wireless interfering? SolMiester (139)
717697 2008-11-06 03:21:00 He hasn't emailed me back today so I don't know what if anything he has checked today. pctek (84)
717698 2008-11-06 05:21:00 Check if the WLAN module is the /n or Draft n version. Is still not fully standardized, and I know that some routers cannot see them. georgeks (9122)
