717351	2008-11-04 10:06:00	I had a machine with 1.1 ports that actually didn't have enough power to even detect, let alone connect to, my wlan. I had my laptop (with 2.0 ports) and it reported 'Very Good' reception. So a USB port can affect both the range and the performance of a wireless card.	jwil1 (65)
717352	2008-11-04 18:37:00	I have tried a Belkin adapter in an old Compaq (K6-2 450MHz, 1 USB 1.1 port) laptop running Ubuntu & it ran fine. If you're just surfing (not using the WiFi to transfer large files across your LAN) you probably won't notice much of a speed difference, as USB1.1 is theoretically good for ~12MB/s & can keep up with your internet connection. 717353	2008-11-04 23:13:00	Thx. It's a laptop and quite old. I can add PCMCIA and ge the top speeds but I wanted to use USB and in the future I can use this for my future desktop PC. Just used for surfing really. Taking the laptop into the lounge etc... The ADSL modem is RJ45 connected to the laptop docking station. So really not speed impt, but just that hope it works (!).
