498756 2006-11-13 08:24:00 Today I went looking at microwaves and I thought, well- I've never used the oven thingy under the bench but if I had a microwave with the crispy grill I might use it.

So, there's plain microwaves, invertors, fan forced, convection and grills... and I'm totally confused :(

The grill bit looks a bit complicated with having a separate tray that you have to put in and I'm thinking all that stainless steel inside will be a pain for the housekeeper to clean :D

Anyone have any 'heads up' on what to buy/not to buy? Money no object really... up to $1,000

That would be nice.
I have had 2 microwaves over the last 3 years, a panasonic and a smeg.
I picked up a smeg with a element above it for about $600, which can be used to brown things such as a roast. Works well. Far better than Panasonic. Their newer microwaves are crap and only last about 3 years before they lose their cooking power. My originak panasonic microwave lasted 15 years, but the new ones are made in china and are very poorly built.

498758 2006-11-13 08:55:00 I currently own a 'standard' Whirlpool oven that I've had 5 years and it just goes. All the new ovens appear to be crap build compared to my 5 year old one :(

The only problem with the new Whirlpool ovens is that they have 'swing down' doors like a normal oven, reckon it could get a bit annoying.
