| 718884 | 2008-11-08 13:26:00 | When I recently attempted to move some files to my external hard drive I got a message saying that it was full . When I checked the drive itself there are over 80GB left to be written . I've searched on the web and tried to solve this myself, but I have't had any luck, and I know next to nothing about computers, so hopefully someone here will be able to help me out . Below I have attached some specs on my computer and images for both the error messages and a full screen diagnostic of the drive that I ran with windirstat . If I'm posting this in the wrong place I would ask that the mod please relocate it to the proper area . Thanks! | 718885 | 2008-11-08 17:58:00 | Is it formatted in FAT32??? If it is, its possible that error message is coming up, if you're copying files bigger than 4 GB to it. FAT32 has a 4 GB file limit. You cant do anything, unless you update that system to Windows 2000, or higher Since the hdd will have to be formatted in NTFS. 98 SE cant read NTFS, without 3rd party software |

| 718886 | 2008-11-09 19:44:00 | Do you happen to have an old version of Norton Utilities installed on your computer. It has been years since I have used win 98 but I recall having the same problem caused by Norton saving all files deleted from the recycle bin, so they could be undeleted later. If you do have Norton installed go to the Norton Tab of the Recycle Bin and tell it to purge all those files. |

| 718887 | 2008-11-09 23:59:00 | If it's formatted in an old filesystem (eg FAT, and maybe FAT32, although that's unlikely), I think it imposes a limit on the file in the root directory (I forget how much). Try putting the file in a subfolder. Also, from wikipedia: A limitation in original versions of Windows 98/98SE's Fdisk utility causes it to incorrectly report disk sizes over 64GB.[15] A corrected version is available from Microsoft. Dunno where it's available from, but try checking the disk size on another OS if you can. |
