718776 2008-11-08 09:51:00 Heya,
I'm making a website in frontpage, and I've got it all completed but i've realised I might have jumped the gun when previewing the website on a different computer when my computer was dead and saw that the website is left aligned and not centered that adjusts with the browser size...
It seems that my Background Image is too long but even if I adjusted that to 750px length it still left aligned, is there any way for me to centre the website and have borders around the outside for those with HUGE monitors....

Website is not live so cant show you what I mean...but this is 2 examples of what I mean...

Website is similar to this....in terms of layout...everything on the left..
www.murraydownie.com

I want my website to be like this one...Centred etc
www.pagebreeze.com

I have learnt 1 thing tonight that If i want to centre website I cannot use absolute Posistioning in frontpage, so how am I able to put images wherever I want, similar to using absolute?? as relative doesnt work for me...

Am using Frontpage 2003 in Windows Vista.

718777 2008-11-08 10:16:00 <body><div id="wrapper">...all the rest of your code...</div></body>In the css you need
#wrapper{width:800px;margin:0 auto}Change the width to suit.

718778 2008-11-08 10:24:00 Heya, Thakns for your reply...do I do both or 1 or the other?
Am a bit of a newbie when it comes to CSS....hence why i use frontpage...so i dont need to worry about code.

718780 2008-11-08 20:23:00 thanks - will have to figure out where that CSS goes....as code looks so messy to me so yeah...

I've actually made an new page thats perfectly centred using tables etc, and the picture stays where i want it YAY! but then it forces the hyperlinks that I had down the left side towards the bottom of the page....like if u put a box on top of another box it pushes that 1st box down.....but i thought if i put table cell into a table its just another layer ontop the table layer so it could overlap, but in this case its refusing....

718781 2008-11-08 21:41:00 Google "css template (www.google.com)" or "xhtml template (www.google.com)" and have a look at the free ones avaliable, there are thousands.

Never use tables for site layout.

718782 2008-11-09 01:39:00 I've actually made an new page thats perfectly centred using tables etc, and the picture stays where i want it YAY! but then it forces the hyperlinks that I had down the left side towards the bottom of the page....

Assign one <div> to the picture and the hyperlink. The format will be something like this:

<div id="picture">
<img src="image.format" />
</div>

<div id="hyperlink">
<a href="yourlinkhere.htm">Link</a>
</div>

In CSS

#picture {
float: left;
}

#hyperlink {
float: right;
}

Swap the "left" and "right" values if you want the hyperlink to appear on the left.[/QUOTE]

Rob99: I find that implementing tables is easier for a beginner than to use full-blown CSS. If the poster intends to make a professional website, then CSS is the way to go.

Cheers :)

718783 2008-11-09 03:52:00 Heya....
I tried to follow the code you gave me...but it didnt seem 2 do anything...
heres the code from the "fixed width" page that I made...am trying to do it as a template, so that on page 2 all I need to do is change the photo and the wording underneath, and of course the hyperlinks by removing the 1 that the page actually on...
Have pasted here from the "HEAD" command.....

</head>

718784 2008-11-09 06:07:00 Did you implement the code that I posted? How much of HTML do you know? I do hope you have specified the DTD settings in <html>?

e.g.

<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "www.w3.org
<html xmlns="www.w3.org dir="ltr" lang="en">

Cheers :)

718785 2008-11-09 09:18:00 Front Page is very useful but if you use front page code you will be restricted to host servers who have Front Page support & charge more. Much better to stick to HTML and Tables.

Problems with screen fit can be caused by Front Page expressing width in pixels instead of % of the screen. Also beware of using fonts which are not standard Windows or Linux Fonts.
